    No Opinion of CEO

I worked at BHP full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    The pay is quite good

    Cons

Very difficult environment to get any meaningful work done, you spend a lot of energy learning the latest gimmiky computer systems , avoiding political landmines and other people who are clawing their way up the ladder.

    Advice to Management

Lots of posters and committees talking about Respect, Inclusion, Diversity and Equality does not create Respect, Inclusion, Diversity or Equality.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at BHP full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great assets all in lowest cost quartile

    Cons

They never, ever learn from history. Best CEO was Chip Goodyear, because he let the company just run and take advantage of the great assets and good people. Leadership keep buying stuff (and in markets) they don't understand and then have to write down killing shareholder value. Safety won't improve until the culture changes from phobia that assumes processes/systems will protect instead of people being... 'fearful" for their own safety. (By the way there is nothing wrong with good safety systems but that doesn't prevent accidents - people do!)

    Advice to Management

Listen to your long-term employees, who have seen every mistake in the book. And make the tough decisions on culture.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at BHP full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent exposure to operations at a grand scale. High level of quality expected with good standards in procedures and safety for such a large company. Benefits are good and the culture of constant improvement well embedded.

    Cons

Size of the company can make staff feel insignificant to the overall contribution, feeling a bit like 'another number'. High level of quality and standards requires personal sacrifice. The company is also in constant change and restructuring which can lead to frustration and instability.

    Advice to Management

Avoid changing processes and organisational structures constantly to allow time to create value at the ground level.
