    I worked at BT full-time

    Pros

Some great opportunities to get involved in large scale, challenging projects and meet great people.

    Cons

You then meet a lot of mediocre people, who lead the great people into oblivion.

    Advice to Management

All management that haven't contact with the production trenches should be sacked immediately. Any new blood would be better even if it failed. At least they wouldn't demoralise their employees as much. You cant hire software developers claiming you are a software company in your grad scheme and then brutalise them and say you aren't a software company to pass your agenda of stupidity. You waste talent that leave within...

I have been working at BT full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Access to some of the biggest enterprise and nation-state customers int he world. Opportunities to work with bleeding-edge technology.

    Cons

Impenetrable bureaucracy everywhere. Frustrating resistance to chance and satisfaction with the status-quo.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the scope of the IT group (TSO)

I worked at BT for more than a year

    Pros

Has some really good technical people and technology - if only the management and processes didn't get in the way of realising the benefits of these!

    Cons

Promotions and senior management roles are more linked to who you know and how long you've been there - no obvious link to merit! Processes are slow, bureaucratic and pointless - 6 people to approve a purchase order for $50! Inability to think or behave strategically - classic case study of being penny-wise and pound-foolish

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the multidimensional matrix management structure Reward employees on performance, not on how well they play the politics of the organisation Slash and burn all your policies and processes; trust and empower your employees, you employ some really smart people if only you'd let them get on with their jobs!

    Pros

Depends on your boss but at times flexible. Access to fantastic tech and worldwide research.

    Cons

No investment in people leadership. No culture - everyone working in silos and completely up to people to create teams. Waaaaayyy too much internal focus and reporting

I worked at BT full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great benefits and flexibility. Reward and recognition programs, including bonuses, can be worthwhile when you fit the curve. A lot of knowledgeable people who are always happy to share their advice and help you succeed in your own right.

    Cons

Still very much a boys club in areas such as Distribution. What is spoken by some SM's is not necessarily what is practiced when dictating/negotiating downwards and sideways. Customers are ultimately the ones that suffer, even though their vision would tell you their goals are otherwise.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the people you already have that demonstrate forward thinking ideas, expert knowledge, and the drive that any corporation would want. You are rapidly losing talent due to a lack of willingness to look at anything other than your sales force potential.
