I have been working at Bain & Company full-time

    Pros

Incredibly talented, diverse and good natured group of peers who genuinely care about you and support your ambitions.

    Cons

Often long hours with challenging clients. Uncertainty around travel leaves you unable to make long-term commitments (e.g. team sports). Case experience varies drastically.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Huge investment in your personal development (both for life at Bain and for life outside of Bain). Super ambitious and hard working people who also love to have a good time! Work is always changing allowing diverse skill development. Comprehensive review which enables employees to hone all aspects of their toolkit.

    Cons

As a consultant you lack final decision-making power (that is, you don't own a P&L line). You can therefore be quite distant from the final decision of the company/client.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in culture! It works!

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Friendliest, most supportive, and smartest group of people you'll ever work with
    - Relentless focus on client impact - activities that won't drive impact are deprioritised
    - Pragmatic - it's large and growing, but doesn't have the bureaucracy of other businesses its size
    - Phenomenal learning opportunities - investments by the firm are massive, from global training to mentorship
    - Never gets boring and always challenging - as soon as you master a role, the next milestone is around the corner

    Cons

Limited sustainability, driven both by travel and hours worked

    Advice to Management

Take sustainability seriously for people at all levels

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Supportive environment with lots of feedback. Broad range of work also a plus. Impactful work that's visibly used by CEOs for decision making and which can often make it into the press.

    Cons

Long(ish) and unpredictable hours. Frequent travel can also be a downside.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

One of the best places to start your career - very strong mentoring and feedback culture, which allows for constant self-reflection and improvement. This is coupled by a rigorous training program which ensures you learn the consulting tool-kit very quickly. Finally this strong emphasis of mentorship and learning is supported by a fun and supportive culture which emphasises connectivity across and between classes.

    Cons

Sometimes the hours can be long and work-life balance can be negatively impacted - I wouldn't say this is the norm and you can usually manage work-life balance on most cases.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Bain’s apprenticeship model means that I have been working with the very best in the business from Day 1. Each day, I am lucky to learn from colleagues across many different disciplines and tenure levels – from analyst right through to partner. The supportive culture and mentoring at Bain has honestly exceeded my expectations, and I know that I have a really strong support network within the business. I’ve become a great consultant because of the investment that my colleagues have made in me.
During my time at Bain Australia, I’ve worked on clients across many different industries, and focussed on solving many different problems. The one thing that has remained constant through all cases has been Bain’s absolute commitment to achieving results. Every day, we work to help our clients achieve new levels of success – I feel like part of the client teams during our cases, and our client’s successes are our own. It’s the most collaborative atmosphere I’ve ever experienced.
Bain Australia is a great place to start your career – a perfect mix of challenging work with the right support systems in place, great clients who are striving to achieve more with their businesses and an incredible culture. The people at Bain are exceptional – intelligent, ambitious and always up for fun. I feel extremely lucky to call myself a Bainee!

    Cons

We do work hard to achieve great client results, but the business acknowledges this and puts a lot of effort into creating a sustainable work/life balance. As a result, we're lucky at Bain Australia to have abolished 'face-time' culture often expected in professional services firms.
