Pros

- Free bus tickets around the world - Cheap insurance (after 3 months) - Your choice of equipment - Bright office with a nice view

Cons

- Unprofessional and unexperienced management - Frat house atmosphere, sexist jokes, you are not a man if you don't like hockey etc - Very long hours, employees working evenings/nights and weekend are celebrated as heroes - Unrealistic deadlines - Bizdev makes promises that devs can't deliver - Illusion of transparency, points that don't suit management won't be discussed but questions that make the company/management look good will be at length - Unpaid interns - High turnover, most of the people working there a year or two ago are long gone - 24x7 pager duty for developers - Adding new features before fixing existing bugs

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We're very sorry to hear that you didn't have a positive experience at Busbud. We recognize we aren't perfect, but we are working very hard to improve, starting with listening to reviews and feedback from our employees. It is true that our startup environment means high expectations, but that is because we are composed of highly passionate employees who want to give their 120% to build real travel solutions to our clients. Since your review, we've also worked hard to ensure a culture of trust and transparency by holding weekly kick-off meetings, where each department presents their goals and achievements, open mics to share new industry knowledge, and sprint demos to showcase progress from the technical team. As for diversity, you're right, we need to embrace it. We've increase awareness and training for our team around diversity and inclusion in past years. As you may have also seen, we created the Omnibus Project, an initiative to encourage and empower diversity in the tech industry, starting internally here at Busbud. That means taking a public stance to support diversity, hosting events such as Ladies Learning Code, and promoting it through our product, marketing, and people operations. We are serious about being part of the change and expect our Busbuddies to lead it with us. Thanks again for your feedback and your contribution!

Pros

Neat office, competitive salary (for some) and nice perks, interesting co-workers, so-so product.

Cons

Highly political environment, your survival here depends on who you rub shoulders with, not how well you actually do your job. If you say something that doesn't sit well with management it's very likely you'll be asked to leave the following Monday. Sexist and completely unethical treatment of employees, such as having interns that are unpaid and interns that are paid very well. Management motivates people at the company by buying expensive gifts to some and parading them in front of others.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, and thanks for pointing out a lot of the perks you liked about working at Busbud, including our benefits, work environment and brilliant team!

We're always looking to improve our employees' experience, so your feedback is appreciated. We're sorry to hear that you encountered a situation where you perceived that politics interfered with you doing your best work at the company. We absolutely believe in a work environment where everyone feels listened to, safe from any type of discrimination, and encouraged to share new ideas and improvements to our product. Our commitment to transparency and diversity are the reasons why we implemented:
 - the Omnibus Project, an initiative to promote diversity internally, in our community and globally,
- weekly kickoffs and 1:1s, team feedback surveys, regular all-hands meetings, and other ways to help team members share their opinion about the product, processes, company, culture and well-being
. We also believe in developing the talents of the future, by taking in interns when we can. Our interns are paid, and put onto tangible projects where they can observe the real impact of their work. They are encouraged to expand their knowledge of different stacks and engineering practices, as well as contributing to projects with our Customer Experience team. If you're interested by a few short reads, you can check out our Internship Testimonials on our blog. Thanks again for your feedback and contribution.

Pros

Good place for learning all the latest tech industry buzzwords and watching ex-frat boys play in their natural habitat.

Cons

The company likes to shed some of its staff on a monthly/quarterly basis, which means that a third of the people who were there in early 2015 have already left the company or been fired. Is the company simply bad at hiring? Do the dubious workplace politics turn people off? Does management need actual management training/experience in order to manage and retain people? Yes. Watching two seasons of House of Cards does not a manager make.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. You're right, no one should take advice from Frank Underwood! We take your feedback seriously. Over the past years, we've fine-tuned our hiring process to recruit top talent by implementing a very structured interviewing process. We've also increased our awarenes for unconscious bias by providing training to our team leaders. We have a high bar to hire the best people: highly qualified and diverse. Additionally, we've recently expanded our leadership team (COO, VP of Engineering) to continue to create an organizational structure that can empower everyone.

Thanks again, enjoy season 6 of HoC!
