I have been working at Canon USA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Canon USA as a company has the right intensions of providing a great work and life balance.
The HQ is a wonderful place to work in; it provides employees with many benefits including fitness center and a full cafeteria on site. Fair number of days off, including holidays and the weekends are primarily yours.

    Cons

Very conservative company needs to become more aggressive to get ahead of the game with competitors.
Current VP is a MICROmanager, why have managers if you are a micro manager and everything needs to be filtered through one person. This is not the entire company as I have enjoyed working for other leaders. The leadership of Canon USA needs to phase out these people if they plan to continue to be successful.

    Advice to Management

Canon USA brass, listen to your own employee survey and ACT.
Great campus let the employees enjoy it, add more activities or allow more!
In a large company, there is no room for micromanagement or favoritism by leaders.
At a manager’s level, there should be decision making capabilities, that why they are managers.

I worked at Canon USA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits (healthcare, vacation), great cafeteria (Melville), nice people, good work life balance - but there's a catch! Nice facility.

    Cons

9-5 work hours.. which is great until you need to leave 30 mins early or want to come in 30 mins late. Zero flexibility on working hours. No you can't work 8-4 one day - you must use vacation time. Cannot work from home. Never hear from senior management directly. I can't imagine working here with kids.

    Advice to Management

Share your vision with the entire group - not just Directors and above. Show your employees you trust them by not tracking when they come and go and beef up your tech infrastructure so employees can work from home - it's mutually beneficial!

I worked at Canon USA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Learned some SQL which was useful for future career moves

    Cons

Can't speak in behalf of the whole company, but the micro-management in this team was challenging at times.

    Advice to Management

Be open to using technology better and not doing things the harder way out of comfort

I worked at Canon USA (More than a year)

    Pros

-Looks good on your resume, I guess.
-The NY campus is pretty nice.
    -The gym isn't bad.
-The raises aren't that great and you'll get promoted like once every ten years, so don't worry about coming early or staying late.

    Cons

-They don't handle sexual harassment well and have some scary men working there
-Upward mobility is tough for American employees and doubly tough for women
    -Salaries are WELL below market
-They will force you to prove your salary history, so hopefully you didn't have a bad job before because they will use it to underpay you. Didn't happen to me but happened to others.
-401k matching only vests if you work there for 5 years because they know nobody young and talented stays.
-Performance reviews are super formulaic and don't necessarily have a way of assessing if you go above and beyond.
-Morale is low, especially among young people.

    Advice to Management

Get with the times. Treat women better. Fire creepy men in the office. Stop being so stingy with pay and expecting people to be grateful. Have more flexibility in terms of hours. Also, learn how to be cool on social media.

    Pros

You have a job, and some great employees to work with.

    Cons

Management, all levels. Cannot relate to the hardworking employees.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating employees like robots, Japanese will walk pass you with head down, not even to good morning, thank you, or good night. Many of the hard working employees are have health issues, maybe get a clue or maybe they don't care?

I worked at Canon USA full-time

    Pros

    - Good start for college graduates to get a foot in the door with a large company
    - Nice building, walking paths are great
    - People are wonderful

    Cons

    - No work life balance, strict 9-5 policy, no flexibility
    - Room to grow is very limited, salaries are below market
    - No remote working

    Advice to Management

Company needs to adapt to the modern age. Will not attract a younger generation if only upper management, ex pats are the only ones allowed to make decisions. Driving away good talent.

    Pros

Kyosei philosophy that has been the foundation of their global success. Exceptional track record of technology development and invention (Canon is number 3 US patent holder after IBM and Samsung).

    Cons

Going through challenges of shifting emphasis of business from mature/declining market (e.g., digital compact camera) to growing market (e.g., medical).

    Advice to Management

Return to the basics of Kyosei philosophy. That means, focus on important social needs and strengthen collaboration with visionary customers and external partners to satisfy the needs.

I worked at Canon USA full-time

    Pros

Good benefits, nice building, location is nice,

    Cons

Management is weak and communication is terrible. No room for growth which affects salary. No support from HR. Lack of training, guidance or direction. Mentality ~ figure things out on your own.

    Advice to Management

Those who are favored get placed on pedestals. Sadly, those who work hard, are dedicated and show effort become unnoticed.
