I have been working at Capital One full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

They have a nice Campus in Richmond

    Cons

Parking ban in McLean prohibits commuting for folks who don't work in DC. They expect you to commute back and forth frequently but don't have anywhere for you to park a vehicle if you commute other than a satellite lot which is only open in a narrow window of time. If you have an electric car and intend to commute, you will not be able to work here.

    Advice to Management

WPS does not listen to feedback and directs all complaints to a private email so that the sentiment is hidden. They set up "echo chamber" rooms behind desks in Richmond that broadcast sound into the floor so nobody is able to get any work done and after 20+ people complained, they did nothing whatsoever.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Capital One full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Salary and benefits are by far the most attractive aspects of the company.

    Cons

New leadership was brought into our department. Over a period of one year they radically transformed the entire department culture and environment. Unfortunately, in all the worst ways possible.

    Advice to Management

Revisit and replace the executive management anywhere the employee engagement and moral scores are too low. It will weed out ineffective management and help attract the "right" talent helping both current and future employees.

I worked at Capital One full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    * Some very intelligent, talented people * Most people are bought into the Capital One mission and excited to be there * Pushing the envelope for financial services technology with move to AWS

    Cons

    * Lots of bureaucracy, which is not surprising for a big company * Culture of decisions by consensus, which leads to excessive number of meetings * Has a tendency of throwing people at problems rather than coming up with the best solution, leading to overstaffing * Agile practice still needs a lot of work

I have been working at Capital One full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Company is pretty good with decent benefits and pay. There are spots inside of the organization that are horrendous. More in cons. But, avoid anything near or reporting to Anil Joseph.

    Cons

Unfortunately Anil Joseph is a terrible manager and an even worse human being. His sole focus is on doing as little work as possible and berating his direct reports. I am unsure how management has kept him, he is a liability to CapitalOne. The Investment Research Group is a pleasure to be on and provides valuable work to the organization. Any joys of being on this team have been turned in to terror by working... for Anil Joseph. I have seen him tank the careers and compensation of members of the team that wanted to transfer to other roles. He is constantly focused on taking out those below him that become to successful. He always has a person that he wants to pick on, sometimes it is me (at least I can shield some of the others and handle his little man complex)

    Advice to Management

Get rid of Anil Joseph as soon as possible.

I have been working at Capital One full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good pay for cyber in DC Senior Managers Base plus bonus 185K Director Base plus bonus and RSU 250K Nice 40 hour work week

    Cons

VP plus leadership is failing Directors who are ICs struggle Don’t be in the bottom 15% or risk firing Too much turnover. 25-33% of folks leaving every year

    Advice to Management

Fix VPs who are the bottom 15% Cyber needs massive reorg to fix appsec and deliver good products. Eratocode and Skylight are way over budget and behind schedule
