I worked at Cargill full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Clear expectations, well defined boundaries, good management, great facility in a good location (Hopkins MN)

    Cons

A Very structured work environment with a rather restrictive dress code. Corp IT support by TCS may have been a mistake...TBD.

    Advice to Management

You should know that dockers and collars do not improve productivity.

    No Opinion of CEO

I worked at Cargill full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good company to work for, great people "in the trenches"

    Cons

Cargill's IT field is shaky. It feels as if Cargill doesn't want people who can actually do IT, as much as they want people who can tell contractors what to do. I've often felt that overall, Cargill is terrified of technology. They depend on it, but still don't know how to deal with it.

    Advice to Management

Outsourcing doesn't help you to keep good people, or to maintain control of your intellectual property.

    I worked at Cargill

    Pros

Was once one of the best companies to work for in Minneapolis. Had a long term view that allowed it to grow during cyclic economic times Great coworkers who cared about their colleges and doing what was right for the company. People were always willing to put in extra effort to get things done

    Cons

Leadership decided to off shore most of IT as well as finance, accounting and several other functions. What once was a great place to work has become toxic as jobs were off shored or eliminate. Those that survived are walking on egg shells as they wait for the next axe to fall. Leadership is driven by corporate politics. Salary increases, promotions and retention are driven by if your in the right clique. Even...

I worked at Cargill for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great workforce! The teams I worked with were knowledgable and had dedicated work ethics. The new reorganization efforts are velry difficult to understand. Only value that is visable right now is the bottom line.

    Cons

Once and for many years voted as a top employer by the employees, the recent changes have toppled that perception. A great loss to a once admired local company.

    Advice to Management

Hope all the lives that have been highly impacted over the last 2 and upcoming years will have been worth it to all of the decision makers. Business over people is todays name of the game.

    Pros

Nice people, good culture & work ethics

    Cons

If you want to be in IT then Cargill is not the place. Need to streamline a lot of business processes for IT to be successful

    Advice to Management

Leaders need to be grounded with a stable vision & strong knowledge. Also need to learn from other companies' before making big time decisions.

I have been working at Cargill full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Retirement benefits, work life balance on going training, global travel, diversity, cross functional business experience . Flexible work hours expense account

    Cons

Changing CIO, too many processes that are completely not needed. Too many contractors that take away focus on the customer.

    Advice to Management

Focus less on process and more on serving the customer. Define customer as people who pay for products and services and not on internal users.

I have been working at Cargill

    Pros

Has workd from home(which when taken give an impression that you are irresponsible and lazy guy) Salary is standard.

    Cons

They only have KPO jobs for non sap people here. There is no clear path for employee growth and it has one of the horrible appraisal process. The managers lie about new project but as you start preparing for the project the project gets cancelled and u are left doing non technical jobs KPO jobs. If you are not in SAP expert this company is horrible choice. Some unnecessary politics if in case there is new project its...

    Pros

Diverse to handle all market fluctuations Excellent health coverage Focus on safety

    Cons

Salaries are lower than market average Upward mobility only exists if willing to relocate every 2 years More focused on bottom line than employee retention

    Advice to Management

Maybe instead of doubling down on failed policies, you should harvest and grow the existing talent pool to lower costs.
