I have been working at Charles Schwab full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are opportunities to get multiple licenses and certifications which are great resume builders to make good money. The people that work here are great and want to see you succeed in your career. There is a lot to learn about the financial industry that can also be useful in your career as well as in life.

    Cons

It's a very demanding environment. There are constant calls from advisors that are asking questions that require research consistently everyday and it just never stops. It gets mind numbing how busy it can get so the workload is excessive. The pay is really low given what is asked of you on a daily basis and they've "stiffed" me on a raise several times while still asking me to do more work.

I have been working at Charles Schwab full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The atmosphere at Charles Schwab is about the same as every financial services corporation. People are generally positive, the benefits are solid, and there are a lot of different opportunities. Most departments have a generous bonus pool and the campus is very nice.

    Cons

If finance is not your forte and you are just in Schwab for a job, its a grind. Management has the same problems as many organizations. Sometimes communication is lacking and the direction of the team is changing constantly. It feels like one thing will be proclaimed, and then it will be forgotten a month later.

I worked at Charles Schwab full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

*Great peers across the business that are willing to collaborate and help even with the horrible situation with management.

    Cons

*Backstabbing management in CRM (MDs and up will use your work as their own while disparaging your work). This leads to a toxic environment where there are no promotions unless you're the favorite (even if you get glowing reviews). *ERM in particular is led by clueless leadership and very different from industry peers. There are individuals that have great external experience and therefore give competent guidance, but the overall direction is creating additonal more overhead and pushing busy work on other groups. *Audit does not understand the business (they are in-sourcing the function) and repeats exams continuously. *Management horribly planned for a macroeconomic and rate environment without considering possible risks to that plan (ie., rate cuts). *Cost cutting has put a damper on what was a good learning environment, if you don't need licensing for work, you are no longer are allowed to sign up for the review course and take the exam.

I worked at Charles Schwab full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pay is a bit above market range

    Cons

    - Backstabbing and very weak leadership in Corporate Risk; some have been in their roles for 15+ years and avoid change like plague. They are afraid of looking incompetent and very good at self preservation, spending a lot of time thrashing the work of newcomers to discredit them. - Lots of talk about transparency but it is anything but. The moral compass seem to be missing: it is not uncommon for leadership on Corporate Risk to outright steal your work and present it as their own.

I worked at Charles Schwab full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Work/life balance still better than most companies - New Austin campus has lots of amenities like yoga and chair massage (unless you're stuck on the old campus) - Most of the people are pretty cool - If you get on the right team, it can be fun

    Cons

    - Software arm of the company is way behind, so you'll be working on outdated methods and tech stacks, and there's no education budget - No appetite for risk, even though they say they want to experiment, so theres pressure to be like a startup without actually being able to do things that startups do - People with no actual experience are put in charge , lots of politics, the "Digital Transformation" isnt really transforming anything its just a buzz word If you're thinking about taking a job there, maybe wait a year for the economy to even out, it isnt stable work right now and everyone is freaked out about layoffs
