I have been working at Coles part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very flexible hours, good pay for the type of work, corporate environment means rules and procedures are strict and are followed (which is a good protection). If you like to stay out of drama and keep your head down, the job is very straightforward and relatively easy. Coles is usually very diverse with hiring as well.

    Cons

Some stores suffer from a culture of bullying/gossip. This sometimes contributes to a hostile work environment which I have seen numerous team members quit or be moved over. In my experiences across a few stores there is a lack of positive reinforcement or recognition for good work, usually only ever criticism when things go wrong. Agree with other reviews that people are usually very depressed within the store and there is not much individual support for people's needs/desires/mental health. Also very little opportunity for promotion and it is certainly not a clear progression. Cost cutting measures means that management continually cut hours and expect more and more in less time (not their fault, but it often becomes impossible for team members to complete in time).

I have been working at Coles part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The pay is excellent for a first job and they hire people without any experience, online.

    Cons

I really disliked the management at my store because they were so unsophisticated and lacking, there is no accountability for anything that happens at Coles and people are usually in a constant state of depression.

I worked at Coles part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

As a young person, it allowed me to develop my customer service skills. I learned patience and met new people my age from the team. The duty managers were often great, and faced the same challenges from upper management as the rest of the team did.

    Cons

I was severely overworked - especially working closing shifts. You would be left understaffed, with a mountainous task list. Coming in the next day you would be chastised if anything was not done, but they would also refuse to pay you for any hours you stayed back to complete these tasks. Upper management were unsupportive bullies who disregarded any and all of their workers rights. I was left depressed and burnt out after leaving. I was loved by my customers and had received awards for my customer service, but was bullied out of the store by the manager at the time.

I have been working at Coles part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great pay for a first job Flexible hours, easy to manage with school Diverse and respectful atmosphere

    Cons

Some stores ignore the rules, and you are punished for not being able to finish a unreasonable amount of work on time. The only way around it is to work unpaid until you finish to keep getting shifts
