I have been working at Commonwealth Bank of Australia full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A world class organization that gives it's employees a full exposure to the cutting edge technology, great team to work with, capability to grow within the company. Entering the banking sector through the biggest bank in the southern hemisphere will definitely open the door to all banks quite easily.

    Cons

Like any big company, the process to gain data access, using cloud technology or changing an existing process will require a lot of efforts and approvals. This make the business is quite lean and agile.

    Advice to Management

alleviate the current proces restrictions to enhance productivity and time to respond to the market, reduce the IT security to allow analyst select the tools that they are more comfortable to work with.

I have been working at Commonwealth Bank of Australia full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Supplies some of the best Workplace technology to employees. Bonus STI pay is good for very good performance. Promotes remote working.

    Cons

Sometimes management isn’t the best as they take a long time to make simple decisions on important risks and issues. Professional development planning and progression is often up to the employees to make their own opportunities without assistance from management. IT salaries are banded and lower than other financial institutions meaning they don’t counter offer the best staff being head hunted. There is a culture of offshoring IT staff.

    Advice to Management

Staff need to be recognised as a key to success. Over analysing issues are bloating the time to make decisions from days to months or years when the risk mitigation investigations and options papers have already been provided. Better support of staff is needed for development planning.

I worked at Commonwealth Bank of Australia full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Very collaborative and supportive management
    - very professional. Especially compared to competitors
    - strong support for individual development

    Cons

    - Pays about 10-15% below market
    - Can sometimes be quite cumbersome with new ideas etc to get it past fair few layers of management and decision makers

    Advice to Management

    - your doing quite a good job as it is but perhaps a little bit red less red tape to allow greater creativity and ideas across business, corporate and institutional bank just as you have in retail.
