I have been working at Commonwealth Bank of Australia full-time

    Pros

Since it is a big organisation so plenty of opportunities to grow, great work-life balance, decent value system

    Cons

Biased recruitment system, may be a thing across all the corporates. Brits are hiring Brits, Asians are hiring Asians.

    Advice to Management

Internal recruitment system is the worst I have ever seen, Internal candidates got rejected even without a telephonic discussion and even if they have far stronger profile than the selected candidates.

The people you will work with are outstanding - they're true professionals and believe in what they're doing

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Make bold decisions to sweepingly remove waste and eliminate low value, time consuming endeavors

While cutting cost is essential, keeping decision making and jobs in-house is pivotal.

I have been working at Commonwealth Bank of Australia full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flexible working arrangements widespread.
    Great culture.
People are mostly positive and progressive.
Good bonus program, benefits but you will have an average base than the external market

    Cons

Redundancies, cost cutting similiar to other banks.
Lots of processes and bureaucracy which is hard to navigate.
Some areas are good with development, training and progression and others are not.
My area has very low budget xmas parties

    Advice to Management

If attrition is high then take note and do something about it.

I have been working at Commonwealth Bank of Australia full-time

    Pros

There are many dedicated and professional people who will offer their help when needed. A great environment to learn new skills and cutting edge technologies. The Bank has a broad range of businesses and technologies - you can choose to specialize or move between roles for a broader experience.

    Cons

A variety of leadership skill levels at the manager and exec manager level. Some teams can be political though can generally be avoided if you are adding value.

I have been working at Commonwealth Bank of Australia full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Career development, positive work culture, challenging yet fun environment, allows for self growth, open to providing opportunities and supporting its people

    Cons

For a large organisation the speed of change is much slower and this compared to our competitors does stand out as an area we need to improve.

    Advice to Management

More investment in strategic projects which will set us apart from the competition and prove we are the number one bank not just in the nation but globally for our people and communities .

I have been working at Commonwealth Bank of Australia full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Workplace flexibility can be negotiated, ongoing technological advancement with banks systems.

    Cons

Culture is team specific so you can get stuck in a really challenging place.
Not a lot to be said for transition to retirement for current staff

    Advice to Management

While restructuring make sure the EGM and GMs are held accountable to quantify expected benefits and independently track the achievement of stated benefits . Some restructures are short sighted and just don't make sense. We have enough change naturally without rocking the boat at the grassroots level and losing cumulative experience every time there is a management change. Employees feel they are being used and discarded. Not good for loyalty.

Don't be a bank pretending to be a Fin tech company. You can never compete with them on cost simply because they are leaner and not as highly regulated. Stay true to your fundamental strength i.e. Banking. Banking was built on trust - maintain and enhance it.
