Cons

Management is nice, but pay is terrible

Pros

- Easy to get hired - Flexible-ish - Chill environment

Cons

- Pay - Constant turnover - Closes early when "not enough work" yet continues to hire new people every week literally giving zero incentive to people who have been loyal and end up losing hours - Also, as everyone else says, the 3 minute bathroom policy is ridiculous. We're not even getting paid for the 3 minutes so at least give 5 so we can walk all the way down the hallway, go to the bathroom and make it back without running or getting locked out of the system.

Thank you for your honest feedback. We're glad to see that you are enjoying our relaxed environment and scheduling flexibility, but we're happy to address your complaints as well. Hours: Every business has busy and slow seasons. When our workload is low enough, we do give people the *option* to go home early and we prioritize the existing work for our most efficient and tenured staff. If the office closes early or is closed for the weekend, it is always announced with as much advanced notice as we are capable of giving, and it is always due to one of the following three scenarios: 1. There was not enough incoming volume to accomodate weekend hours without hurting hours for the upcoming week. As that's when most people work and put in their core hours, we'd rather avoid having to ask people to go home during the week. 2. Either no one, or not nearly enough people, scheduled hours for the weekend. 3. There was a major holiday. Unless it's Christmas or Thanksgiving, closures normally also mean one or both of the previous reasons played into closing as well. When the queue is busy, we need to make sure that we are fully staffed, so we cannot afford to stop hiring while the queue is low, especially because we cannot control turnover. We employee many students, who will find that they have to quit if their courseload is too heavy or at the end of the year when they graduate and move cities. And, like any other type of work, this job isn't for everyone, and that's okay! Pay/breaks: If you get up to take a restroom break without being locked out, you absolutely are paid for that time. If you have questions about that, please speak with the Operations Manager in your office. As to needing more time, every manager has the ability to make exceptions to the break policy within reason and at their discretion. And while you are correct that we pay up to $13/hour, I am happy to say that many of our employees consistently make $13 each pay period. It is entirely possible and we are happy to give you the training to get there, but it's all about what you personally put into it. Again, if you need help in that area, speak with a member of your management team and we are happy to do our part to help you succeed. That's ultimately what we want. When you succeed, so do we! Thank you again for the feedback and for your loyalty as a scribe for over a year now. I truly hope that this response was helpful for you. If you want to continue the conversation, please don't hesitate to speak with the Operations Manager in your office about how we can improve your experience working here.

Pros

flexible scheduling relatively easy to get a job management/supervisors are nice people catering sometimes

Cons

if you need to pee you have to stay an additional 30 minutes. if you pee twice, you need to stay an hour. as a girl who needs to pee a lot, this is really tough. don't bring a drink! the pay is....pretty insulting (minimum wage) for the amount of focus and skill you need to have in order to perform the job properly. similar jobs pay $10 or more starting out. hard to care about your job when you can walk down the street at any time and get a job that pays more that is less strenuous mentally and physically (your fingers will HURT) copytalk has EXTREMELY poor standards for client dictation, you will have to decipher nigh incomprehensible dictation and will be penalized for not being able to tell what they are saying. clients often dictate while driving 80 MPH on the highway, making the job even more frustrating than it already is. imagine having to be able to tell the difference between '15 thousand' and '50 thousand' while you hear WHOOOSH in the background and the client is eating a mouthful of food at the same time. one can only laugh away the frustration while dreaming of a better job. zero downtime.

Thank you for your honest feedback. We're very sorry to hear that you had a negative experience working with us and that you were dissatisfied with the break policy, pay, and call quality. Let's discuss those issues. Break policy: Every manager is allowed to make exceptions on the break policy at their discretion and within reason. The flexible scheduling you mentioned as a pro allows for you to build a schedule that works around your need for restroom breaks or downtime. You can schedule breaks as needed. Pay: Upon hiring, every employee has the ability to see our transparent, straight-forward compensation policy as well as their own stats, so that they know every step they need to take to make up to $13/hour. We want you to succeed and hit your maximum pay per hour because that also means that you are a productive scribe. Call quality: There is some variance in the dictation and audio quality with each call, but we routinely perform audits to determine which customers need follow-up about the quality of their calls. We welcome that kind of feedback from scribes, so that we can investigate further.

Pros

I can confidently say that I genuinely enjoyed working at this job. If you are a fast typer, have good listening skills, and your grammar is solid, you will do great. The company culture was everything that I was looking for in a job. Everyone was super nice. Management was young and chill. They acknowledged you and your performance. Even though there were a lot of employees, I felt noticed. I went from starting out making $8.00 an hour to $13 at the end of my time working here. You create your own schedule and they also work with you when it comes to mid-terms/finals since the vast majority of people here are students. It was nice to just come into work, sit down, not have to talk to anybody, and just type away.

Cons

It takes some time to adjust to this job, especially if you are not familiar with financial jargon. I would suggest to learn more about what they are actually saying and what some of the terms actually mean if you want to get better. It's totally not necessary but it definitely helped me. Also, your hands will hurt since you are typing for long periods of time.

Thank you for the stellar feedback!! We are so very pleased that you enjoyed so many things from your time working in our Athens, Georgia office, from the management team there to the production-based pay, flexible schedule, and the general office culture! You are so right that while studying up on your financial jargon isn't necessary to do, it helps. That's great advice, thank you! And with the potential for pain the hands from typing, each office has begun posting up charts with various stretches that can be done to ease or prevent any discomfort caused by typing or sitting at desk. We also allow for and encourage people to take breaks throughout their shift to give themselves a rest, a stretch, etc! Once again, thank you for this feedback. We wish you a wonderful holiday season and an awesome 2020!

Pros

- flexible scheduling - close to public transit - good for students

Cons

- They take advantage and exploit workers by paying them minimum wage for very painful, disorienting work. Most people work 3-4 hours a day and I honestly can't see how you can do more than that. I worked for eight straight hours once and I legitimately thought my arms were going to fall off. It's not like management really does a lot to remedy this either. You stop being a person when you start at Copytalk and you start being a cog in a machine. - I said in an earlier post that bathroom breaks come out of your paycheck (which I see was the only post that Copytalk personally came out to defend themselves against since let's face it, they only care about looking like a good place to work rather than actually being a good place to work - BTW, you said that I could reach out to you but left no way for me to contact you. Nice one.) So, let me rephrase the last post. No, they do not deduct from your paycheck for going to the restroom. However, unless you can do your business in record time, you will be logged out of the system for a half hour and you will have to stay another half hour to make up for "lost time". So while it's not "technically" stealing your hard earned money, it is definitely stealing your time. Keep in mind that the only time you're making money is when you're sitting at the computer logged in and typing. But again, we're talking about a company that doesn't really care about its employees, rather unabashedly I might add. - The pay is garbage. I'm looking at my little employee handbook thing as I write this, so I'm quoting it verbatim. You start at $8.25, minimum wage, and they go on and on and on about these "incentives". Okay, let's talk about the incentives. If you somehow start typing like a superhero and knock out these transcriptions without any issue, your pay will be bumped up to a great, fantastic, whopping.... $0.25 or $0.50 more.... after a couple hundred hours of working there. Hooray? I honestly can't see how this place is still legally running. Whenever I explain how it works to friends, I'm met with a quizzical "Uh, is that legal?" stare. So until they start treating me and the other employees with more respect, I'm going to keep telling people the truth about this place. Sorry, not sorry.

Thanks for your honest feedback. We’re very sorry that your tenure with Copytalk Business Services left you with such a negative view of the company, and we want to address the issues you’ve brought up. - Hours and bodily discomfort: We encourage people to start small with their daily hours, and the minimum 16 hours per week requirement accommodates this. Many people find that with time they can comfortably work up to 8 hours in a day with breaks, and others do not. We started out the new year holding meetings in each office to get constructive feedback and fresh ideas from all of the employees on how we can make optimize the offices and the job in general. Comfortable stations and equipment was one thing that was brought up and has since been addressed. We have replaced outdated chairs with a newer model, as tested by the Gainesville office for comfort. We also have added ways to adjust certain stations to varying heights, all the way up to being a standing desk, for those who struggle with our normal station heights. For full-time employees, benefits packages are offered after a year of employment, assisting with your suggestion of seeing a doctor. - Contact info: You can always reach out to a member of management to discuss your grievances further, but it depends on which office you are trying to reach. To reach the Gainesville management team, email gnvoffice@copytalk.com. For the Athens facility, athoffice@copytalk.com. For Tallahassee, tlhoffice@copytalk.com. For the Sarasota office, srqoffice@copytalk.com - Break policy: There is room for leniency with the break policy within reason, so each Operations Supervisor has the ability to make exceptions at their discretion on a case by case basis. - Compensation policy: You have the ability to make up to $13/hour, so a good deal more than an extra $0.25 or $0.50 more. However, the work has to be put in to improve performance stats and stay on top of scheduled hours. We care about our employees in each office, and we’re doing whatever is in our power to make improvements and changes that benefit everyone. We’re sorry if you had the opposite impression from your time with us and are open to discussing it further over email.

Pros

A great product at the time although it is now obsolete. The people and culture initially were wonderful, initially.

Cons

Basically, everything. The upper management continuously lied to and deceived the sales force. Constantly broke their promises, reduced benefits, compensation and danced on the line of legalities. They were continuously under investigation by numerous regulatory bodies. Too many Chiefs, not enough Indians.
