I worked at Costa part-time for more than a year

    Pros

You train to become a barista obviously and making the coffee is actually therapeutic. Free drinks on shift. Discount- but only whilst working.

    Cons

The customers are the worth because of how disrespectful they are with the mess they leave. The way the company treats their staff- illegal. 10hr shift with no break or if you're lucky, 30 mins but it'll be in the potwash room not in an actual staff assigned room. It is such a hard working job, physically draining- the cleaning. They never hired enough people for the amount of work that needed to be done. Half an hour to clean the entire cafe (2 floors and outdoor seating). The company has ridiculous high standards but has no respect for how hard it is for the employees.

I worked at Costa part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexible, they pay everyone the same wage regardless of age (so it's great if you're 16), free drinks on shift, decent holiday pay

    Cons

As the years go on, the company want more and more from the same number of staff, hours can be unsociable (But if you're a student, who cares) on your feet for long periods of time

    Pros

    Free Drinks, some good colleagues.

    Cons

Store Managers expected to work 40 hrs making coffee with an additional 8hrs for Admin most do more than 48 every week . Little time to sit and discuss performance. Assistant Managers can leave with 7 days notice causing major issues with recruitment and store covered. Staff turnover is massive but store managers regularly don’t process leavers so they keep their churn number within the bonus levels. Direction of the business is all over the place with senior directors delivering mixed messages and focuses each month. Fairly sure the company turn a blind eye to KPI manipulation in order to hit targets but rather praise the performance, even when you have rock solid evidence fraud at a DP HR advise is often for Final Written Warning! If you love fake fun this is the place for you as teams are often forced to pose for photos with Regional Directors to stoke their egos and gain brownie points. Regional director also likes to hangout with the favourite Area Managers while others might only spend 1 or 2 days in a six months period. Teams are run ragged but frequently forced to work below contracted hours if the sales are below forecast. Levels of sickness are huge with stress and depression at levels I’ve never seen before. Main communication tool for the business is what’s App! Overall I was really shocked and disappointed with what I’ve found. Only join if you hate your family or have no life as there is so much admin and heavens help you if you need HR or Payroll help expect to work more than 48 per week every week.
