I worked at Costain full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Wide range of training opportunities available
    Flexible working arrangements at times

    Cons

    Lack of support from management
No structure with the graduate programme
Lack of team work, isolated at times
    Very niche in smart technology

    Advice to Management

    - Ensure graduates are part of/feel part of a team
    - Support managers with allowing them to work with graduates for guidance and direction with career goals
    - Smart technology is a very competitive market, focus more on what Costain is known for

I worked at Costain full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

-Grad scheme was well structured and paid (with 2 pay reviews a year)
-I was well supported and accommodated through an illness at both project (line manager) and company (HR) level
-Collaboration within project teams and a strong sense of feeling part of the team were always high on the agenda
    - Plenty of cross sector opportunities is desired
    - Competitive benefits scheme (holidays, company car, pension etc)
    - Always kept well informed by SMT through company roadshows which kept us up to date with the business and work winning
    - Directors are approachable and don’t stay behind their desks in their ivory tower
    - Never felt any of the projects I worked on were male dominated

    Cons

    - Lack of work winning within a commutable distance for me
    - All of the grad courses were down south. A lot of driving for many of us!
    - Wouldn’t day I’ve experienced it myself, but I do understand the comments regarding ‘if your face doesn’t fit, you won’t get very far’ but I think these are isolated incidents

    Advice to Management

    Win more work up north

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Costain full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

decent package holidays yearly bonus company car

    Cons

management insist on this take 5 nonsense 3 times a day instead of getting work done and making profit. Inexperienced works management, not really carrying out the duties of a proper works manager. Look after the men on the ground doing the work.

    Advice to Management

Look after the good people and dish off the frauds and time wasters who look busy doing nothing and not contributing to the company. Scale down the project managers who sit in offices hiding and not really cost effective.
