I have been working at Country Road Group part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

As a casual worker at Country Road and a full-time Uni student I've found this job to be very flexible which has been ideal for my situation: I can easily take time off, swap shifts or get a shift covered in order to meet my study requirements. My managers have always been understanding of this. Country Road is also a great place to work if you want to create a career in retail. They love to promote internally, and will notice and utilise talent when they see it - age is not a factor.

    Cons

Sometimes poor communication from head office to store-level staff. Sometimes poor work equipment (technology etc.) that can take a while to receive maintenance.

I have been working at Country Road Group part-time

    Pros

Great discounts, staff allowance, no personal budgets

    Cons

Discounts could be better, head office forget what working IN the store is like and often ONLY care about budgets and KPIs

I worked at Country Road Group

    Pros

Great location, relaxed atmosphere with casual dress. Clothing allowance and staff discount across the brands was very generous

    Cons

Workload in head office was way too high. Senior Executives relied on the brand to attract talent and then worked them so hard they got burnt out

I worked at Country Road Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great brands and a lot of good, well meaning people. But where's the leadership in the middle ranks?

    Cons

Head office culture leaves a lot to be desired. Poor behaviour is rewarded both positively (promotions) and negatively (sweeping under the mat), a complete boys club approach and total disregard for 'company behaviours and values' which are written into every contract, but not played out in any way.

I have been working at Country Road Group

    Pros

Discounts, Friendly staff, work environment is great

    Cons

Lack of style, expensive items, the companys intranet is all instore so you can't access outside of work. I had issues with Payroll and IT when starting initially it was so frustrating contacting head office for petty things and they would take 2 months to get back

I worked at Country Road Group part-time

    Pros

I cannot think of a single pro

    Cons

Management bully staff and are incredibly inflexible. Managers pick on certain members of staff. When calling in sick you are bullied and harrassed constantly questioned and told calling in sick is not good enough. When you get back to work after 1 day sick they force you into a 'back to work meeting' under the guise of helping you but it is actually a constant questioning about why you were sick, what you did about it, specifically what medication you took and blaming you for being sick - this is incredibly invasive and unethical and actually illegal. Other managers are bullied too if they are not friends with the store manager. I had annual leave approved then not paid then told it was a blackout period and no leave could be paid then when I quit this leave had been removed and not paid to me at all. Staff have no contacts for HR or head office to put out grievances. When staff raise issues with managers they are yelled at and bullied and then are not given extra hours when they ask for them and they are available. Extra Christmas hours are not given to staff members the managers have decided they do not like. Staff members are not allowed to wear uniform they are comfortable in and are forced to buy clothes more expensive than the allowance given as they are told other options do not fit the uniform rules. Customers are allowed to abuse staff and managers do not stand up for staff members but bend to customers whims even if their request is not in the store policy. Hurtful personal comments are made often to staff members. If asking to reduce hours staff members receive nasty comments. Pay has not increased as minimum wage has and pay increases totally stopped one year. Clothes have continued to get worse in quality and if staff members uniform rips or tears due to poor quality and wear they are questioned whether they are really purchasing the right size and refunds are difficult (although customers get refunds even if they have clearly damaged the items or it is months after purchase). Staff turnover is extremely high due to this but management refuse to see it is due to their actions. If staff were treated with any respect and loyalty they would likely be retained longer. It is a very negative environment to work in where unethical and questionably illegal things take place.

I worked at Country Road Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You have access to some very top brands, good discount and product allowance, and can meet some interesting people. A good brand to have on your CV.

    Cons

Head office is uncaring, and politics are rife. Basically, lots of fashion industry drama. Focus is on product and profit, rather than people - which is not surprising, but something to bear in mind.
