Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookDisapproves of CEOI have been working at Covidien
Pros
High margin market (Still) Innovative product pipeline Management is not scared to acquisitions of disruptive technologies Less senior employees genuinely care about the company and are highly energetic/friendly.
Cons
Well, where should I start. First and foremost, I know that the previous poster is someone from HR since no one who's actually working on projects will be concerned about finding a way for "typical end users to find the right resource for their questions." Like, what does this even mean? Who are these "typical end users?" Secondly, parking. The parking situation at the two campuses (9 Parker) and (9775 Toledo) are horrible. It's so bad that we've had actual interview candidates decline the job offer when they were told that they need to park offsite. The way parking is handled by Facilities is also a joke, since the lack of parking spaces has been a constant issue for at least the past 5-6 years. That, and the combination of any facility request taking an average of 3 weeks to address is more than enough for their pay-stubs to not be worth the paper that it's printed on. Just when you think the parking situation would lead to some sense of shared sacrifice, HR's stance on any issue is simply "talk to your manager." As one example, people were asking questions on the changes to benefits would affect them during the Medtronic integration. HR's only and last response was "talk to your manager." Well, if your manager doesn't know the answer, and his/her manager also doesn't know the answer, then maybe you should know the answer as HR. Not to mention, HR telling employees to "deal with it" to their manager is a horrible sign of incompetence. Most of the actual administrative tasks are done by corporate Medtronic anyway, so why these people even here? Fourthly, the company culture. Despite the wide background of people working at Medtronic Neurovascular, it's an Old Boy's club on promotions and career advancement. If your senior manager or director likes you, you'll be given preferential treatment over those who have a greater need. If you don't fit the typical job description mold, you'll be quickly dismissed and be given lower-priority projects until you decide to walk out. This, and the Medtronic integration is one of the main reasons why people are leaving in droves right now. Not to mention, management is notoriously disrespectful of those who leave. "Oh, he/she was a flight risk." "Oh, he/she was looking for somewhere else." I'm sick of hearing excuses for people's poor management skills. Also, the work-life balance is horrible. Projects are planned around startup-level resources while trying to meet multi-national corporation quality standards. And finally, the Medtronic integration. The Medtronic integration has essentially destroyed what was an innovative startup company under MTI, eV3 Neuro, and Covidien Neurovascular. Despite what executive management claims as "nothing has changed", almost no one who's worked for more than 5 years is still with the company since they've left to become some Director or VP at a startup company. Moreover, Medtronic's corporate greed is amazing with travel policies and meals getting scaled down, budgets getting cut, and no more new iPhones to new employees. Apparently, winning the award for the fastest growing company within all of Medtronic is not worth the company investing more into this business. Positions and titles are also meaningless, since unless you are a Director level or above, none of the travel benefits kick in. Not to mention, with the new limitation by corporate Medtronic on headcount, the organization has largely remained flat with no new heads and just vacancies.
