Great people, awesome work, and fantastic hours!

      Pros

Right off the bat DNEG has been nothing but fantastic to me! I’ve joined the company during a surge of the pandemic and was really nervous about starting a new job without being able to go into the office. DNEG has been incredibly organized from day one and I was up and running on a remote machine within a matter of hours, something I never had happen at any other VFX studio. The support from the pipeline is great, and the caliber of talent is insanely top notch across all departments. The studio works 9-6 and has great work life balance. Couldn’t recommend this place more for vfx artists!

      Cons

Pay is a bit hard to negotiate as it is based on similar artists salaries, so I’m a bit under my previous rates at other companies. Would be nice to negotiate more, but I also came on during a pandemic so there’s only so much to be expected.

DNEG really get their moneys worth

      Nov 10, 2020 - Production Coordinator

      Pros

      - Benefits are okay - Coworkers are friendly

      Cons

      - Working in a site of about 500+ people with 6 sites simultaneously there is not much "culture" - For busy shows expect 70h work weeks not including working through lunch - Does not offer a healthy work-life balance for busy shows - OT is a sore topic especially during COVID but you are expected to be present for as long as needed & any extra time done is rounded down (which adds up after weeks of OT) - Some of the producers don't have any experience with the DNEG pipeline & are very unorganized and have lots of gaps in their knowledge esp if hired externally and not brought through production positions internally - DNEG issued paycuts, no pay reviews or position changes for another year - Expect to do two roles or a higher role for a much lower salary - Does not offer a competitive salary increases or growth to reward employee loyalty/work ethic - Lots of meetings that could be emails - Lack of proper communication amongst core show or sites leading to lost time - All sites approach things differently so there is a lot of discrepancy and can also lead to lost time

DON'T - Truly the next MPC of our industry

      Pros

      None, really, I mean it.

      Cons

      1. Awfully inexperienced management, supervisors, and producers who absolutely CANNOT effectively schedule and delegate work. You WILL get extremely frustrated if you are a mid-senior artist or lead who knows what they're doing. 2. Terrible facilities. Old, run down, dirty, not cleaned properly, extremely cramped. You're never more than 3 feet away from someone, SERIOUSLY. 3. No culture what-so-ever. Dry. Hardly a friendly environment. 4. As per DNEG tradition now, you CANNOT see ANYTHING the company is working on unless you have an explicit task on a show in Shotgun. 5. Better not hope a global pandemic roles around again or they'll slash everyone's salary and lay half the people off! 6. Did I say inexperienced leadership? Oh yeah. It's worth saying again. Supes are the worst here. 7. You'll be constantly fixing terrible work from India. It's not cheaper in the end if it doesn't work, right? 8. Slow pipeline. Loading anything, especially heavy scenes, takes ages. 9. Two faced HR to the MAX.

      Pros

There are so many amazing and talented people at DNEG, every person I met was professional, inspiring, willing to share their experience and knowledge to help me learn and grow as an artist. DNEG has a database of everyone in the company and what floor, room and desk they work at. This makes it very easy to find the best person in the building to help you with a specific problem and they were always willing to help. The training we received was excellent and frequent.

      Cons

The hardware I had access to was quite limiting, however I was able to use other artists faster machines if they were away.

The worst VFX company in Montreal

Nov 26, 2020 - Lighting Technical Director in Mont-Joli, QC

      Pros

      The pay is pretty good

      Cons

Dneg Montreal gather the worst possible supervisors. They barely have experience and have no clue of what they are doing. London and Vancouver being the head of Dneg, Montreal only have what the first two don't want to do, so basically the least interesting work. Don't expect to use one of Dneg Montreal shot in your reel

One of the worst VFX vendor in Montreal

      Pros

Salaries are good (for some), it's in the city of Montreal

      Cons

Toxic work culture, unfriendly competition between employee, you can feel the boredom and unhapiness. DNEG do not value competence. Lack of leadership (to much juniors in key positions). Communication nightmare . Worst computer equipment in all of the Montreal VFX vendors. Lots of Quebec bashing and Anti -Canadian sentiment.
