I worked at Daikin North America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice office, great learning program, great teamwork, good medical benefits. To wrap it up, it was a good learning experience with a very talented team.

    Cons

Very low wages, no growth opportunities. Bullying culture. Not much a win-win deal. The culture is far away from the corporate values stated in Daikin´s website.

    Advice to Management

Implement a 360ª feedback system. Make the corporate values become office behaviors.

I worked at Daikin North America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Large company with decent benefits, good for networking and getting your feet wet if you are new to the manufacturing industry.

    Cons

Extremely politcal, and corporate environment if you work in the office and are not traveling employee. The top managers that come from the headquarters in Japan are sexist and demoralizing. Daikin North America is a subsidiary of Daikin Industries, which is the owner/parent company based out of Japan. The mentality from upper management is very sexist and racist towards Americans of all colors. I worked directly under a manager who was brought to America from Daikin Japan, because they did not trust "lazy" Americans to properly manage their "workers" efficiently, and you have to be TOUGH to stay with this group for long. Two stars because I did love the type of work I did at Daikin, however it was not worth being made to feel inferior, and expected to work overtime everyday. Like others have said, if you have NO LIFE outside of work and prefer to have a job with a company that expects you to sacrifice time with your family, or other personal obligations for the "good of the company" then this is the place for you! This ties into the Japanese worth ethic, and culture diversity between how it is in Japan and the US... the directors from Daikin Japan speak badly of employees based on their sex, ethnicity, education level, and appearance.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Do not talk down to them, or compete with your employees. Make the environment more inviting to workers or lower and middle managers. Put in bonus programs so the people that do actually work there get recognition for their efforts - there are a lot of upper level employees who do little work, and make big money... shame on you!

I worked at Daikin North America full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Work all the overtime your heart desires. Union environment pay is decent for area. Employees are friendly and welcome to new hires as long as you do your part and work.

    Cons

Upper management. Overloaded employees. Lack of listening. If you don't have a life away from work then this place is perfect for you. Will never have time to do anything other than work.

    Advice to Management

Allow your supervisors to make decisions, listen to them, and take there advice they deal with the floor something you are wrongfully out of touch with. The new HR regime is trying to blow butterflies and rainbows out of every where they can, but have failed to make the environment anymore inviting to workers or lower and middle managers. Put in bonus programs so the people that do actually work there butt off get rewarded instead of washed into the pack.

    Pros

Depending on who you work with it could be a very fun group of people to be with. The Japanese cultures of continual improvement and people centered management seem promising but it hasn't hit the rank and file in North America yet.

    Cons

Poor leadership and management, tremendous turnover, recruiting takes a very long time to get through, and the merger with Goodman MFG has led to continual changes to policy and compensation. Low compensation compared to other manufacturers and equipment reps in the HVAC field.

    Advice to Management

Instead of reminding employees to make sure the door doesn't hit them on the way out, ask why they are leaving. Even if new terms can't be agreed on, it's a respectable thing to do.
