I worked at David Jones part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Staff discount, social aspects and learning about retail - they really know their stuff about retail

    Cons

Not enough staff on so customers are dissatisfied with service because they expect someone at every counter but there isn't enough staff on for that.

    Advice to Management

Match staffing levels with customer service committment

I have been working at David Jones part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The enthusiasm of the team is infectious. You really get swept up in it and start to appreciate the stock that you're selling and that makes you better at being able to sell it. Great people on the team, supportive manager. Lots of supervisor positions available if you're looking to stay in the company BUT if you're a student, it may not be for you because any promotion means a full time job which is impossible to... balance with full time uni. Part-time means 25h a week, negotiable if you have a nice manager and you've proved your worth but your manager will be forever asking you to take on extra shifts to make up the 25h because of pressure from higher up. Casual doesn't have a minimum per week but if you haven't proven your worth or made a big effort to ask for shifts every week, you may not get shifts for months. Another big bonus - STAFF DISCOUNT. 20% off all items except food and electronics (10% for these). Staff discount can be applied on top of sale prices and any promotions. You get paid commission on top of base hourly, but depending on what department you're in, commission may not be very much since it's a portion of your total monthly sales.

    Cons

25h minimum for part-time staff. They can be strict about what you wear i.e. be fashionable but only wear all black and keep it professional. If you're a casual, you have to really be proactive about shifts as they tend to forget about you for months at a time if you're quiet. Senior management can be a bit out of touch with the way your department works and sometimes try to enforce rules such as zoning (having... particular spots on the floor where you have to stand if you're not serving a customer, so you can be visibly manning the floor) and sometime's we can be fairly understaffed (managers have a budget of how many man hours they can get for a week and make a roster out of that).

I worked at David Jones part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some girls are very nice, the staff discount is very tempting and there would have double staff discount twice every year

    Cons

Some managers are very mean and could be jealous at their staff because of the commissions. And they tends to bully others.
