I worked at David Jones part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    20% staff discount, air conditioned..

    Cons

Where do I start.. - management have ZERO empathy towards any staff member. - pushy towards Amex cards (even if the employee feels uncomfortable) - poor communication to staff on the selling floor - cold/cut off approach to handing staff Problems - robotic approach to customer service and standing on the floor

    Advice to Management

Catch up to the rest of the world, you’re Stuck in a time warp and have no idea how to treat human beings (aka your staff). Treat your staff on the selling floor the same as you’d treat another member in management, nobody actually enjoys working for people like the management “team” at kotara.

I worked at David Jones part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good casual pay (standard award rate) - good staff discount. If you have a good relationship with your manager that will go a long way, help you with flexible rosters, taking leave etc.

    Cons

High pressure to sell the DJs Amex card. Commission revolves around this so there is a very competitive environment between co-workers to sign up customers to this credit card. Not many customers want to sign up to a credit card casually on a Saturday while shopping. Managers don't have your interests and ambitions in mind. "Trigger-happy" loss prevention team targeting employees for nonsensical trivial things. ...

    Advice to Management

Don't promote young barely experienced 18-22 year olds into management/sales supervisor positions. Hire more floor staff. Order more bags for customers - we always used to run out during sales.

I worked at David Jones part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Discount Has a great name for themselves so looks good as a reference/past experience

    Cons

Treated employees as disposable The location I worked at had concrete floors and was painful standing up for 10hrs a day. May have been because they were opening in a new location, but management were not very onto it, and were breaching some of the local employment laws (not me personally, but anecdotally from colleagues)
