I have been working at Dell full-time

    Pros

Dell is no longer a laptop business, the Integration with Dell and EMC has been very successful and has created an organisation which is the leader in Cloud, Security, Data and workforce solutions. The culture are very similar therefore the transition to one company has been a lot easier

    Cons

Some systems are still stand alone but this is increasingly getting better

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great job Michael, we're growing and taking market share :)

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

We have a great product set and at the right levels, customer engagements are of paramount importance. Good people in the company.

    Cons

Target setting is incredibly high and everyone is suffering from the crippling numbers. The comp plan is designed to minimise commision and you are a victim of past wins. Targets are so large people are demotivated to chase business that has no reward except a worse number next half. With a split 50/50 OTE this is really hurting.

Yes there is a lot of debt to pay off. Have an honest conversation about the number not spinning it like it's a feature to be penalized.

    Advice to Management

Consider saving money but re purposing the vast numbers of triplicate managers and specialists. Listen to customers and team about the what is happening in the market. Bring ideas and adapt.

    I worked at Dell full-time

    Pros

    Good entry point.
    Learn a lot about printers.
    Mostly hardware focused role.
    Travel around sydney.

    Cons

    No growth.
    Stuck doing the same thing.
    A lot of travel.
    Can be hectic.

    Advice to Management

    Should focus on developing skills.
Should invest in moving company in the right direction and invest in people.

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good environment. Most of the people are nice and have a good attitude.
    Respectful management.
    Stability.
    Not too much pressure.

    Cons

Location of the offices in Sydney - Frenchs Forest.
Offices are old, dirty and nothing works. Not even the lift.
Systems are also incredibly old. No web applications, isolated systems, all of them are slow, have constant errors, there is no one to go to for support.
No flexibility. You need authorization from your manager for even the smallest change in the 8-5 day schedule, so not much for Work/Life balance.
Overall is a very outdated company.

    Advice to Management

You should implement internally what we preach. "Workforce Transformation"?

  6. "Technical Support is basically a "Call Center", not technical"

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - You get free teabags and coffee sachets in kitchen
    - You learn hardware (which no one cares in job market other than handful of Vendors only)

    Cons

    - Products specific training and work only
    - They only train so as to support specific products only, that even hardware only
    - Working on Enterprise environment and products totally remotely, on phone, even remote session is discouraged !
    - For technical support, no flexibility to work, no work from home option or anything
    - Working without remote session and not allowing lab access for physical learning, you are throwing arrows in the air when supporting customers
    - stagnant learning, in 1 year you get saturated with all you can know. That is the reason resignation rate is very high and quick
    - Extremely slow increments, extremely low chances to switch internally, hence no growth
    - If you are in, you get no exposure of what is going on in IT market, you got to be supporting old school technology and prodcuts only "hardware focused"
    - Focus is not better learning or bettery delivery, focus is "Matrics", you just have to achieve your numbers for taking calls and maintaining minutes/stats
    - Worst documentation for prodcuts among all vendors, you will get half way info in documentation only, shows poor engineering
    - Management only Matrics focused, dont care about your growth or larning or interest
    - Team work very poor, no one willing to cooperate, everyone works for their own cases and is in urgency to get rid of cases
    - In short, a typical call center environment where people come to look at the clock to complete shift and leave without learning anything
    - Have to even take bathroom breaks keeping an eye on watch, should not exceed allowed time (15 minutes total in a day)

    Advice to Management

If Matrics are the focal point, no one cares about career building or learning or team work
