I have been working at E*TRADE Financial full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Friendly and hard working People

    Cons

    Unqualified management
    no work life balance
    Lack of respect to others

    Advice to Management

A true example of a company that does not consider people as assets. The CEO and the Board should take a closer look at the qualifications of the appointed VPs in FP&A and Accounting department. Specifically the VPs that have a high turnover within their organization. This should be a strong indicator for you to know those who are unqualified for the position. I am honestly not optimistic about the future of Etrade since a good company starts with a good leadership team (not the case here). VPs expect everyone to be a machine. Basically you get hired to do 2 or 3 people’s jobs. You also witness people being verbally abused and even though these instances get reported to upper management, there was never any corrective action that has been taken against those abusers.
In short, I do not recommend this company.

I have been working at E*TRADE Financial (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Good people, casual office environent

    Cons

Massive time and adherence micromanagement, soul-draining and exhausting work, very little opportunity to apply critical thinking , little room for cross-departmental movement (once you are in customer service, you are there to stay)

    Advice to Management

Provide a less demeaning compensation structure. When employees perform well on the job, give them an opportunity to speak with a manager regarding their future with the company, not a Snickers bar and a pat on the back

    Pros

You are given the freedom to build your own business with very little oversight. Products are varied and sufficient to meet the needs of most clients.

    Cons

You're are left wondering if the firm has the same commitment to your clients as you do. Very disorganized firm with most groups operating in independent silos.

    Advice to Management

If you are offering a wealth management platform, be committed to it and demonstrate your commitment to your employees.

    I worked at E*TRADE Financial full-time

    Pros

    Learn alot about the industry

    Cons

    Management can be incompetent
Don't get to do many projects, only day to day job
Call center environment, scheduled breaks and staggering lunches
Quarterly recognition programs that make you feel like a child (candy bars, $25 gift cards)
Almost impossible to shadow other positions/departments
"buddy-buddy management system" so the same awful managers stay at the top

    Advice to Management

truly invest in your people, let them take an hour or two to shadow/ghost with another department, even when its busy. Don't promote awful managers. Pay more. Don't stress over the numbers and stats so much.

I worked at E*TRADE Financial full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy introduction to the industry. training for securities licenses. extensive overtime opportunities. if you play your cards right, you can be manager in 2-3 years (i did not, nor want to)

    Cons

overworked constantly. no recognition of performance or ingenuity. each individual works for themselves, passing off the buck to someone else as needed. below average intelligence and way outdated systems. systems break at least twice a week.

    Advice to Management

don't work your service staff so hard. fix the issues with software and performance. stop working off a decade old business model.
