I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The mission is exciting and motivating. What we make is important, and the work can be rewarding as a result when the bureaucracy doesn't get in the way. The pay and benefits are pretty good overall, although you work for them. If you have the right boss, the work atmosphere is positive, but for those with a poor leader it can be quite hard. The amount of change as of late can be a bit confusing, but seems to be on the road to a better place.

    Cons

Work life balance can be a bit of a challenge. The office politics can be a bit much, and there seems to be a bit of a big brother vibe lately - keep your head down and just do the job and don't stick your neck out.

I worked at Emergent BioSolutions full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Pay and benefits are good

    Cons

Culture is toxic. Good old boys club although I was pleased to see recently one of the "good boys" was apparently let go.

    Pros

You are temporarily propped up by decent pay and benefits.

    Cons

Sadly, this company is a sham. Take a look back at the history of the Board and who has enriched themselves of the "anthrax hysteria". It certainly helped the company when the anthrax letters where mailed to government officials. How much of our tax dollars pay to stock pile this so-called important vaccine. Once you leave the company, you realize how the US taxpayers are being taken to the cleaners. The other companies Emergent acquired in the following years probably do add some value to society, but for the most part this company could go by the wayside and no one would notice or be affected because let's face it, we will have a nuclear holocaust before we ever have a widespread anthrax attack on the US. Every time there is some world epidemic like Ebola Emergent tries to cash in but nothing ever comes of it. Pretty pathetic. With the government shutdown, is Emergent going to get paid????

I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits. There is a lot of potential.

    Cons

I have had 6 managers in the last 3 years. The senior leadership of the IT department is made up of Contractors and project managers. Moral is at an all time low and the department is in a sad state. No direction by leadership. Poor communication.

    I worked at Emergent BioSolutions

    Pros

Challenging work at times. Pay and benefits were great. It was fun to see a young company grow into a teenager. The people were the best. Worked there over 11 years. Lower and mid management were excellent. Not much exposure to upper management. Even though one product was made in Lansing, work was varied enough to keep one's interest each day. If there was a word to describe my Emergent experience it would be 'contentment'. In all the years that I worked there I felt very content from the first day. I was free to be me. I was always encouraged and empowered by peers and management. I went home leaving work at work, knowing that what I did at work mattered to those at work and to customers. Plenty of room to grow and develop. There are so many little things the company does for employees and it is improving. JIt awards, the events like the tailgate, the gifts, apparel, holidays, PTO, Benefits etc. Just keep improving don't stop.

    Cons

All jobs have pros and cons. It seems that most in management, are there for the first time with little experience, but are given management training and were promoted from within. Some say toxic. I was never privy to what went on in management, the politics if you will. I only attended two meetings regularly that was the monthly department meetings and tech meetings. While others have opportunities for recognition, those actually doing the work are never included. There is a difference between sitting behind a desk for 8 hours and standing on your feet the whole 12 hour shift. Being there every day(when your're scheduled) and doing the work of making the product has to mean something, every bit as much as those who save the company millions of dollars.

I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The pay and benefits are great. Aside from management, the employees are wonderful. It's a very interesting and unique site. The standard of quality at this manufacturing site is amazing.

    Cons

The operations side of the organization is run by the most arrogant, self centered people I have ever met. And if you dare to stand up to them, you will be the next one forced out.... which is likely why there aren't many women in senior management roles. It is a sexist environment and the male managers are threatened by women. I've witnessed this multiple times. This company tolerates the most degrading and offensive behavior, its beyond belief.

    Pros

Challenging, great coaching and great people. Pay and benefits are solid. Efforts to improve culture are evident. Fast growth overall.

    Cons

No prioritization of work - takes on more than is realistic and does not support resources to achieve goals. Work/life balance is poor - rewards long hours and total dedication over planful and balanced execution.

I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

A lot of opportunities for those who work hard, are positive and advocate positive change. It is a good company for people who want to make positive things happen. A lot of positive culture change in the last 5 years including decisions made at lower levels and a lot less difficulty in getting things done. Competitive pay and benefits. A lot of investment in new technology

    Cons

Still opportunities for additional positive culture change but headed in the right direction. Management has improved greatly but still a few managers that are not as good as they could be. Still some poltics
