    Pros

This company has figured out how to sham the government out of billions of dollars in outdated products for the national stockpile.....you may consider that impressive or not.

    Cons

Buffoon senior management, egos galore, fake culture, terrible HR, constant purchasing of almost expired products. Uneducated managers with no real world or international experience.

I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good people to work with on the team. Benefits are good, the pay is reasonable. Management seems to be working on clearing away the red tape the gets in the way of doing things. Seems to be OK to give ideas depending on where you work. Managers in my group treat you with respect.

    Cons

New structure seems confusing. Workloads can be big. They talk about culture, but not everybody supports it the same. Dealing with HR can be the worst depending on who you talk to. They had someone good there when she was on leave, but she came back and it's same old same old. The leader there is a bully and doesn't have time for you, although she seems to be nice to higher ups. She treats people lower than her like crap. Surprised senior management doesn't see it.

I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The pay and benefits are great. Aside from management, the employees are wonderful. It's a very interesting and unique site. The standard of quality at this manufacturing site is amazing.

    Cons

The operations side of the organization is run by the most arrogant, self centered people I have ever met. And if you dare to stand up to them, you will be the next one forced out.... which is likely why there aren't many women in senior management roles. It is a sexist environment and the male managers are threatened by women. I've witnessed this multiple times. This company tolerates the most degrading and offensive behavior, its beyond belief.

I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions for more than 3 years

    Pros

Decent benefits, exposure to government and projects with impact on public health

    Cons

Culture is toxic, lacks diversity (ethnic and gender), bonus sub-par compared to industry, with senior management taking most of the share. Promotions random and leaves you wonder on their logic.

I worked at Emergent BioSolutions full-time

    Pros

Descent pay for the area. Had some descent people to work with, however most have been let go due to political agenda or voluntarily left (running). Also, people who have been there longer get the final say whether it is logical or not. This explains a lot of the problems they have had and currently have.

    Cons

Too much political agenda, poor scientific practices (try the same approach to fix a problem over and over and they wonder why the method does not work). Management is ineffective, deceitful and just bad at their jobs. CEO pretends to care, but as long as the company makes a profit, no effective change from him or senior management. Also, I find it amusing the number of positive ratings and vague reviews (i.e. "Fast growing company making great strides" made me laugh out loud) for this company went up soon after management discovered all the negative reviews on Glassdoor.

I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions

    Pros

Fast corporate growth, opportunities materialize quickly, relatively competitive salary & bonuses. CEO is actually very good; very dedicated and an excellent communicator. HR is making a conscious effort to change the culture (will take time though).

    Cons

Cronyism/favoritism across at least half the company. Scientific personnel are stellar but dwindling. Senior management (just below VP levels) for the most part are pathetic - they manage via negative reinforcement/motivation tactics. Problem solving and scientific solutions can ONLY stream from the top down. If the cycle broken, you risk ostracization. Essentially, the political savvy thrive.

I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions

    Pros

Compensation and benefits are fair. Annual bonus is nice. Talented people. Insurance benefits, 401k plan, life insurance, vacation, holiday pay. Summer hours.

    Cons

Toxic and unethical environment. Members of senior management each have their own agenda which breeds in-fighting and turf wars which adversely affects company growth. Outside the box thinking is not encouraged or rewarded. Attempts at encouraging Core Values is propaganda at best and a failure.

I worked at Emergent BioSolutions full-time

    Pros

There is a talented pool of employees. Compensation is fair.

    Cons

The senior management doesn't value their employees. There are a handful of qualified managers at this company but most are playing dirty political games, scared to advocate for their employees, not adequately educated or experienced, and overall make it near impossible to fullfill their company mission. There are several examples of employees reporting unethical and harrassment offenses to Human Resources without any action. There is virtually no development. They will tell you what they have to, to get you in the door, but then you are bound to do only a version of the job that your (ever-changing) manager will determine is appropriate. There are several employees that live the company's core values (as stated on a poster) but there are also instances where employees have been punished for following the core values leaving employees in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" environment. Employees with limited educational background and poor performance are often promoted while those more qualified are left stagnant in their roles for years at a time. This company is all about who your friends are. Decisions are made based on personal reasons and not on performance or qualification. Regardless of what you are told your job is during your interview, or how great they make the company sound, run as fast as you can to another opportunity. The only place Emergent will take your career, is backwards.

I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The training opportunities are okay; company is growing; talented employees; comp is pretty good.

    Cons

Very political; senior management always playing the blame game; senior management doesn't know what they are doing; no direction or solid plans; workload is often heavy; everyone is looking for a new job; the culture leaves a lot to be desired.
