Pros
-It's local. You won't have any excuse for being late! -There are loads of managers! You won't quite know what they do but it's reassuring to know they are all doing better than you yet have no idea what you do! -You will quickly learn that any work/life balance you thought was appropriate was indeed wrong and your re-programming will continue at no extra cost. -Saturday overtime will finish any day now and is a short-term contractual obligation!* *Short-term obligation is a Bath ASU definition and your interpretation is wrong. -They are getting better! Say it often enough and who knows? It could be true! -Use of a gym! Outside. In front of everyone in the offices. That nobody uses. Because its in front of everyone. But it looks good as you drive in until you realise there's nowhere to park because there's a gym nobody uses taking up desperately needed parking spaces.
Cons
-Your rights and benefits will erode faster than your confidence in the company. -Due to high staff turnover you will be exposed to many an unstable individual who, despite sexism, racism and ageism, will amazingly get though their probation. -You will work in a barely functioning environment. Every terminal, hatch, mop and intercom will be unsuitable for use and will exacerbate your existing problems caused by extreme work load and lack of managerial support -The training you receive has almost no correlation to the job you will be expected to do. The principal NCFE trainer creates a toxic environment where there is such a thing as a stupid question and your test will be marked vocally and in front of your new colleagues. You may not feel like you can stand up to this as your new "career" depends on passing the course. -Arrive at least 30 minutes before work to guarantee a parking space or play "make your own and hope nobody notices™" -Meetings are delivered with such an abysmal lack of confidence or clarity that you end up sitting in a cold warehouse for up to 30 minutes hoping that, if your shift is about to start, that someone asks a stupid question or two so that, despite the freezing and uncomfortable surroundings, you don't have to immediately go into the unit. Good job guys! -You may have to attend work early or stay late (but in your own time) to hear the owner grand-stand and spout business talk on a pedestal of his own design. When you realise that to deliver this information there were other options but this is the one they went with you start to wonder just what you got yourself into.
