Pros

Overall good company to work for, especially as a first step out of university. You get thrown in the deep end from the start, so is very sink or swim, but you learn a lot through this approach. -Mix of office and site work -Interesting projects -Nice offices and team members

Cons

You are expected to work long, hard days out on site while being paid under the average wage. Slightly depressing when drilling contractors are being paid for every hour, while you cap out at say 10 hours even if you work up 14 hours daily. -Lots of unpaid overtime hours -Very busy and you get shipped out for months on end on site. -Long and convoluted expenses procedure

Pros

Individual colleagues really look out for each other. There were opportunities for career progression and encouragement to learn new technical knowledge through attending online conferences and the graduate academy.

Cons

Since the Phenna Group takeover there has been a crackdown on staff utilisation times leading to graduates going to site without proper training. Three rounds of redundancies were made with senior people who cared about the business being disproportionately affected. This caused low staff morale and people have been voting with their feet and quitting. Those left behind have thus been asked to do between 3 and 9 people's jobs and getting burnt out as a result. And if you leave, the notice period is a minimum of 2 months even for a graduate leading to those on their way out not wanting to be there and benefitting no one. This is in violation with the spirit of the investors in people gold award which CGL used to win year after year. To combat the declining staff numbers Phenna Group have merged other companies of theirs into CGL but the exodus either is underway or is about to start at these companies too.
