I have been working at InVision

    Pros

    - Everyone works from home - Flexible time off (unlimited vacation) - Smart, fast-paced and talented management team - Well positioned and connected in the industry for accelerated company growth - Lots of opportunity for career advancement I was extremely impressed when I started working at InVision over a year and a half ago because one of the first people to contact me was the Director of Employee Happiness. It seemed surreal to think a company values their employees so much that they'd hire a Director of Happiness. What surprised me even more was that everyone on the team was hard-working, talented, and extremely passionate about what they do, even though I hadn't met them face-to-face. You could feel the energy from the team chatrooms and phone calls. The InVision team really culminates their integrity, passion for the design community, and ensuring a positive work environment. Every single person I've worked with at InVision has displayed integrity without compromise and communicates incredibly well. Given the entire company works remotely (we all work from home) there's a natural tendency for management to hire people who can communicate effectively through calls, Hangouts, Skype, emails, and chat. But, considering the difficulty in triaging customer support issues or major system outages, it seems the team has been able to weather every instance (though infrequent) with a well organized Slack channel and team org structure / communication protocol. Some even pulling all-nighters that I couldn't swing! The management team is incredibly well connected with industry leaders in the product space (Google, Adobe, Twitter, Uber, Mailchimp, etc..) and is also very open about company objectives and ensuring that each strategic growth decision is made in the best interest of it's employees. I have absolutely no reservations in the decision-making ability and talent of the entire management team (Directors, VPs, and C-suite folks). My recent check on Crunchbase also seems to show a recent funding round (45M) by Accel Partners. So, I'm very confident they're positioned to accelerate their growth and make this (yet another!) unicorn. The most important thing for me when applying jobs is to have career advancement opportunities. There's never been a lack of opportunity while I've been here. In fact, the role types and positions that seem to open up always seem to crop up right when I'm thinking about how I can grow into a new role. (Though, some negotiation and self-initiated need discovery is required.) Another thing I was really frustrated by in past work environments was red-tape (long and arduous approval processes) and colleagues competing for a role that I felt I was better suited for. None of that is present at InVision. There's virtually no red-tape and you pretty much can get anything done quickly. It's amazing how people really take an objective approach in meetings because there isn't any second guessing of body language / tone of voice. People are very matter-of-fact and tell things as they are. So it's easy to trust everyone. Lastly, while one would expect to work a wee bit more than your standard 40hrs a week; every minute of the work I do is so so gratifying because I know and trust the trajectory of the product and the team that's behind it.

    Cons

    - Not a great place for people who thrive on in-person relationships (since everything is 'virtual') - Requires a fair amount of self-started initiative driving - Must be very disciplined with setting your own schedule / priorities and be motivated to love the work you do - Not the best place for recent college grads If any of the above says anything about a poor fit, it has more to do with a personality mismatch than real cons of working at InVision. I'd say, that InVision isn't really the best place to work if you're looking to advance your career through a mentor or someone that can help guide / clarify your passion, attitude and professional goals. All of these qualities are characteristics that you must possess yourself and have a self-starting attitude in the work that you do. You must bring to the table all of your very best strength, and be willing to quickly admit where you fall short. Integrity and honesty are extremely valued at InVision, so if you feel compelled to tweak a skill you don't really have or pretend to know something you don't, it's easy for people to find out. Time-management is also a must! While I am not the best at keeping track of time, you must be able to proactively figure out priorities on your own and push the collective team's initiatives. It's easy to get side-tracked and lose focus of priorities. But, everyone else is fairly respectful of your time. Meetings start and end promptly and no one is around to remind you of a team meeting.
