    Pros

Ok pay but far from good. If you don't like your manager, they will probably be gone in a few months.

    Cons

Don't count on the training you need, you'll have to get that yourself. Shifts screw each other over just to make themselves look better because they only focus on the numbers that count. They make changes to departments and then don't follow through with all the details and leave you without the proper tools to do the job. Your told one thing but then get thrown under the bus. If your not a favorite, then sooner or later your job will be given to someone else. They rather fire someone than give them an opportunity to fix the problem. Your given goals but not the resources to complete them. You either screw over the next shift or fall short of the goal. You can't trust management there as they will stab you in the back as soon as they can. I know most supervisors there are scared that if they make any sort of mistake they will be fired. They're told that mistakes happen, we're human, but then they fire them as soon as they do make a mistake. My advice, don't work there! Hourly employees are in good shape if you don't have an accident. And yes! They do whatever they can to keep the union out, including showing their own propaganda against unions. If you management, don't count on consistent policies, actions from any of the senior management team. Don't trust what your told because what happens to you is based off of how much you suck up to them, not what is in the company policy.

    Advice to Management

There are policies for a reason. Go by them and not change them based on the situation and how much you like that person. Work together with the other shifts instead of screwing them over. Learn to make a team environment. Learn to develop the people that work for you, not just fire them. Especially stop playing favorites, because everyone sees it. Most of the supervisors you have, are only still there because they can't find another job in this economy. Very few like it and I bet most will leave when they have the chance.

    I worked at Lowe's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some really cool coworkers, better starting pay than most retail, not open too late and a lot "moral building" type events like free food and holiday themed clothing contests. There are some old-timers there that really treat each other like family and will have your back if you show up and prove yourself (unfornunately they are not high up in management). Even Monday thru Friday people had to rearrange their work week and show up on Holiday Weekends! A huge cause of stress and chaos.

    Cons

WAAYY out of date systems. Managers are too scared of corporate to try to make commen-sense changes that employees are begging for. Also too scared of customers to stand up to the ones are trying to rip them off, and no backbone to fire people who are hurting the store. Stepping up at any point just puts a target on your back that says "use and abuse me cause I'm the only responsible one here" They do not set expectations or priorities well and are often unrealistic about how much a person can accomplish. Rewards and write-ups were both unpredictable. Once you basic training is done, you are basically responsible to find time to continue educating yourself. Not a practical approach.

    Advice to Management

Grow a backbone! You run the store, not corporate. Learn who your good people really are and stop letting them burnout! Ever wonder why so many of your employees have health problems?
