Pros

--The people! They are always trying to uplift each other. It's not a place where competition thrives. Very much like a family. --Business casual --It's a job you can emotionally invest in, if that's what you're looking for/social justice is your thing.

Cons

--As a nonprofit environment, it can be very stressful to submerse yourself in. High risk of burnout. Plus everyone pulls more than their weight. --It can be difficult to balance professionalism and the emotional investment you put into it. --Fundraising is just one of those things that is difficult, especially for introverts.

Pros

Were extremely accommodating to my hectic schedule (I went to school & commuted each day from South Orange, NJ) Its clear that the staff loves what they do. Everyone is willing to help out where needed, and thats always nice when working in a team. Perks were nice! For a struggling college student, free lunches/ dinners, AIDS Walk Para and more were greatly appreciated.

Cons

( Not really a Con) It is Non-Profit, so they do share the space with GMHC so you do get the "clinic" atmosphere sometimes, but not a big deal when you're busy working! They pay as a stipend, and for a non-profit thats not unheard of. It was difficult though with all the bills I had surviving off of a small stipend.

Pros

Casual, yet hard-working environment. Must be a self-starter, motivated; you will be given an overview of your role, and guidance, but your hand will not be held. Active, i.e. you will not sit at a desk all day, during several weeks. Cause-oriented: everyone is very passionate about the cause that they are planning the event for. Your drive and extra effort is recognized.

Cons

Pay is not excellent. Be prepared to stay late, as the event approaches, or depending upon your role. I didn't mind this, but some might, depending upon personal situation. The CEO is a very strong personality; be prepared to listen, and do what he wants. The company is his baby. Also, they hire on an event-by-event basis; if you want to keep on with them to another city, you need to speak up quickly, or the jobs will be taken by insiders.
