Pros
Membean offers a great opportunity to work with teachers and students, which can be pretty fulfilling. The benefits are also nice with good medical and dental plans, plus a learning and book stipend.
Cons
Management lacks transparency and teams are siloed, eventhough the company is small. The lack of communication was concerning at times and often required multiple follow ups for updates on the progress of a fix or feature. Development is slow and does not meet many (if any) of the deadlines established. This was particularly a challenge when we communicated upcoming changes to customers and did not deliver the expected results on time.
Marketing and shareable content is basically nonexistent, which hurt the sales team in the long run. Along with the lack of collateral, there are no efficacy studies or scientific proof in support of the program. While I know the program works, these studies would help to solidify the data and meet the requirements needed for proving effectiveness in order to gain funding.
Ideas and suggestions for improvement are often shot down right away. When management plays "devil's advocate" can you really expect people to feel comfortable exploring new ways to solve issues? Overall, the atmosphere was rather negative when I left, but hopefully this can be turned around with the right attitude and actions from management.
