Pros

- Good people, supportive and friendly, across a wide network of global locations - Interesting work if you take initiative - management generally open to new ideas but unlikely to come up with them. - Plenty of opportunity for travel - Great work/life balance - zero pressure to work long hours/weekends and time off in lieu when you absolutely have to - Good non-salary benefits - annual leave, pension etc, though healthcare is limited.

Cons

- Quite typically of a public sector org, hierarchical and rigid organisation, frustrating if you're based in field offices outside of Scotland in terms of progression or getting things done. - Middle/senior management often there for literally decades and more interested in their own longevity, entrenched views and big pensions than in the wellbeing of younger staff and the work culture. - Plenty of dead wood which is never moved on, while brighter people leave. - Lots of navel gazing

Pros

Amazing people both in the U.S. and at HQ in Scotland, great teamwork, people who believe in the company and have stayed with it for many years, wide scope of responsibilities, strong mission of supporting Scottish economy, excellent resources to help do your job, great external partners, great work-to-life balance, empathetic understanding from management, opportunity to travel domestically and to Scotland, and just superlative benefits.

Cons

Perhaps some limited upward mobility opportunities, but nothing I'm too concerned about, at present.

Pros

Work-life balance Benefit package (US) Travel opportunities (US Domestic & occasionally Scotland) Development opportunities (education sponsorship programme) Great role to build a high-value network in a specific sector You'll learn to understand the Scottish accent!

Cons

Salary is a bit below-par given it's a Government-run, Scottish taxpayer-funded organization Management tries really hard to listen to its employees, but occasionally can be tone-deaf
