Pretty Happy - Junior Quant Trader TransMarket Group Employee Review

Pros

Collegial atmosphere, I hang out with some of my coworkers on weekends Much less of an up-and-out culture than other firms (they really want to keep all juniors and hire all interns FT) Real path to being a head of desk and becoming a partner at the firm (quick as 5 years if not sooner) Lots of responsibility for juniors (I manage my desk's whole book over the Asia market hours)

Cons

The desk you get placed on is decided in a way largely out of your control, especially as a junior. However, I do think most juniors really don't know where their skills lie. Compensation for juniors is on the lower side for Prop Trading

Pros

- You get to take on risk very early on in your career; opportunity to develop new strategies and make big impact as a junior. - Great work culture: friendly people and little toxicity. - Good internship to full-time pipeline (which is what I did). They spend a lot of time/resources investing in and training both interns and new-hires.

Cons

- Starting salary is on the lower end for the industry - Especially compared to HFT's, less tech-forward; less exposure to innovative/exciting ML or AI

Pros

- The vibe inside the TMG office greatly reminds me of a research lab. There is transversal collaboration between all desks, and everyone is always happy to share their knowledge regardless of which strategies / products they trade. I never felt any sort of competition between desks and all of the people I have met are, on top of being brilliant, also very humble and unassuming. This aspect in particular made me feel at home from the start. - In terms of work, it is a combination of maintaining the current trading software and improving the logic through research on the market. The latter is the most interesting aspect in my opinion and, as time goes on, I am being given more and more responsibilities to carry out my own research and make an impact on the desk. I find this environment quite stimulating both because of the freedom and the responsibility I have been given. - People at TMG are simply magical! From day 1, I felt very welcomed and supported by everyone at the firm. Whether it is to discuss some technical topics or personal ones, everybody is always happy to spend their time answering my endless questions. In particular, the senior traders I work with are exceptionally patient and kind, which I was not necessarily expecting at a trading firm.

Cons

- Depending on your desk, you may have to work through holidays and/or night shifts, which can be annoying. That said, you can hedge your work exposure by making use of a rather generous PTO policy to recharge whenever you feel the need to.
