Pros
Serving in the Air Force is a great way to serve our country and learn valuable skills which can also be applied in the civilian workforce. Promotion opportunities are quite good at least for officers due to so many people retiring and separating. Getting to work as a team with the AF core values was a great experience as well. The benefits, including medical, dental, vision, leave, taxes, and commissary are all quite valuable when compared to the "outside" world. Another great reason to work for the US Air Force is to be on the cutting edge of emerging technology.
Cons
Being an Air Force officer, I can not count on my duty day being 9-5. The hours are very long in most cases (though rewarding as well) at a cost to family life. Also, education and leadership opportunities are not always given to the deserving personnel, but to those who are closest to the decision-makers (i.e. closer to the flag pole). The medical care is not always the best, but it is "free." Senior leaders do not always consider the entire Air Force mission and focus too heavily on fighter aircraft which are significant, but possibly not as important as other emerging capabilities.
