Pros

Fully remote team that respects flexibility, but is also highly accountable to one another. Autonomous work style that keeps the calendar free of needless meetings, enabling really good work to be done. Awesome clients that genuinely value our work and our service to them.

Cons

Small company comes with its downsides, but overall none of them outweigh the pros of the job.

Teammates are kind. Pay is good.

I wish nothing but the best for this company but maybe I can help someone if they are considering doing a Paid Interview. I did a month long project from start to finish as a Paid Interview and didn't get the position with pretty much no feedback other than they were looking for someone more senior. Which wasn't in the job description. They then asked me to do a second Paid Interview for a different position, and again, decided not to go with me. I'm not upset that they chose different routes, but after the amount of time and energy they expect of you, it would be professional to give more specific feedback. I was given good feedback by teammates throughout the project.

Laura, co-founder here! I want to respond to this feedback and share that we hear you on the paid interview, and have since shortened it to a fixed-length, short term project. It will still be paid, because we strongly believe that is right and fair. Speaking of fairness, parts of this candidate’s review do feel a bit unfair. We liked this candidate and feel we made a genuine effort to make things work. We helped them get approved for a lease to rent a new place, and offered a second paid interview for a different role after we determined the first wasn’t a fit. We have records of feedback provided during the paid interview process - both in comment-form on the candidate’s deliverable, as well as written in notes about what was shared when we decided to end the paid interview and part ways. Additionally, after parting ways, we emailed resources and suggestions for where we felt this candidate could grow their skills in order to be successful at surefoot (or elsewhere) in a similar role, and have yet to receive a response. We do appreciate the feedback on the paid interview and have used it to improve things moving forward, and wish this candidate the best as they move forward in their career and job search.
