I worked at Energex full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Good salary, flexible start/finish times

    Cons

Many staff without formal training in unsuitable roles, nepotism, cliques, malicious gossip. They don’t practice what they preach, and if you don’t keep your head down and your mouth shut, you’ll find out the hard way. Trust no one, as every word you say, or opinion you have, will be eventually used against you.

I worked at Energex full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good Conditions Well remunerated Good Work/Life Balance Focus on safety Merger has had a negative impact on culture but this may improve in time though (still has many good people)

    Cons

Entitlement mentality among staff Difficult to change things Lacks commercial focus - lots of waste Leadership generally communicates poorly Merger with Ergon brought out poor behaviours in leaders and staff (survivor mentality) and it became difficult to know who to trust

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Energex full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Lots of career opportunities - Good work life/balance and flexible working arrangements for those who need them - In house gym, shower facilities and health programs - High paid salaries (however this can also mean deadwood often stay even if they hate their jobs & in turn make other's lives miserable)

    Cons

    - It can be acceptable for some managers to constantly display unprofessional behaviours without penalty - Executives were made aware of the pending cost increases back in the late 2000s but chose to ignore them - Too many over-customisations of IT applications and too unnecessary staff whose jobs are to request more of these - Giving into the unions to often - Executives/managers often blaming IT for their own mistakes - Subject Matter Experts are often given the task of running projects without any project management skills which always ends in disaster - The title 'Project Manager' is used very loosely and given out too freely without any skills

I have been working at Energex full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Fantastic, caring company which really does actively demonstrate its care for its people. Safety focus is always a first consideration, with increasing focus on mental health of its staff. Traditionally there has been significant opportunity to move around within the company, particularly through secondments this has diminished recently due to the workload associated with preparations for the merger with Ergon. Pay rates are pretty comparable to general market, with work conditions being better than most. Newstead office is real positive, with onsite gym and bike/shower facilities.

    Cons

Many people struggle with the level of bureaucracy however if you accept this as part of working for a Government Owned Corporation it is understandable.
