I have been working at Event Cinemas for more than a year

    Pros

As a teenager, this is a great first time job. - On-the-job training with use of registers - Customer service experience - Welcoming, friendly culture - $2 movie tickets (only valid after working there for 6 months)

    Cons

    - Can get boring after a while - Some communication problems with management on latest promotions (can lead to irritated customers who ask us about deals which we were not informed about) - Understaffing during peak periods makes it a nightmare for both employees on shift and customers - If you roster time off, or swap shifts with other people, you will be punished with 0 hours or max. 3hour shifts in the following weeks

    No Opinion of CEO

I have been working at Event Cinemas part-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Casual staff are amazing and friendly -Great staff discounts on movie tickets + food + drinks -Lovely General manager

    Cons

-Management are very power crazed. Most of them walk around like they’re kings and queens and the rest of us are just peasants...aside from the handful of staff which are their favourite. The favourites also get the most hours and are treated like gods gift. Managers have been known to take shifts away for reasons such as someone saying they were tired to come into work in a group chat which was shown to a manager, who then cut that persons shift. Managers can be very gossipy and two faced. -Very restricted hours -Punished with no shifts or minimum 3hour shifts if you book work off occasionally

    Pros

Good hourly salary $2 movie tickets with maximum 8 tickets a month

    Cons

Management are bullies You're working with you who will throw you under the bus for any sort of gratification or reward Very much a "everyone is for themselves" environment Management will punish you for taking any time off by decreasing shifts so that you can't live for up to a month No sunday rates Public holidays are 1.8x not 2.5x

Great Environment, Friendly Staff at my location, Managers are great and work is very decent for the pay you get. Especially at a young age. Extremely Cheap movie tickets and food also

    Cons

If you want staff benefits you gotta work at least 1 shift a week at the workplace. Good luck to any casuals that want cheap movie tickets.

I have been working at Event Cinemas

    Pros

    - the cheap movie tickets (i.e. free - let's be honest, no one actually buys a staff pass) - being positioned in a major shopping precinct so close to shops/public transport

    Cons

    - Snacking on junk food and sweets (popcorn, soft drinks, choc tops, Gold Class food & beverages, leftovers, etc. I've put on so much weight - extremely rude customers in Gold Class (entitled upper class people) - i've gone home in shakes and tears after being called names from customers - these experiences have made me dwell on their awful comments for days afterwards - yet no counselling is provided or even offered, and the worst is that if you have a formal complaint about upper management there is really no way to escalate the issue without going through them as Events (as big as the company is) does not even have a HR department.. - poor rostering due to supposed "low payroll" issues that have been occurring for way too long, as a result extremely busy Friday or Saturday nights may only see around 6 people rostered in Gold Class bar/kitchen and as a result food is late, food gets run in cold, people have anxiety attacks from the stress of it all, people miss out on breaks, people faint from being hungry - we work so hard and are given very little recognition/praise from upper management - instead they go home at the end of financial year with a nice little cash bonus for under-rostering every working week. The wage - not worth it. - sexist promotions (I saw three men who were hired after me and who were less experienced than me be promoted and paid more, when they were not fit to supervise a team) - this is also an issue of favouritism amongst upper management. - most the colleagues that you work with on your level are fine, but upper management are authoritative, cowardly idiots who haven't got the slightest idea of how to talk to staff, let alone treat them - recently hight turn around - we've lost 4 duty managers in the last couple of months (that's 50% of the management team) and recently lost another 4 casual employees in the last couple of weeks - that's just to name a few ^

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Event Cinemas part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - free movie tickets - 50% off of popcorn, coke, and choctops - 20% off of other concessions - offers a great balance with other committments e.g. university - co-workers are mostly friendly and great people - meet many interesting customers that I am on a first-name basis with

    Cons

    - almost always understaffed - customers are often rude - managers do not see you as people - innovation is discouraged - other co-workers are not very helpful in terms of cleaning and maintenance activities - sexism e.g. women being excluded from conversations, less qualified men being promoted over well-qualified women, women being expected to "take more" than the men - managers and some supervisors are occasionally reluctant to help - our physical and mental safety is not a priority - responding to criticism is dismissed as "talking back" - managers and especially supervisors can't handle constructive criticism, particularly male supervisors - workplace culture is highly dependant on the co-workers rather than the values that EVENT supposedly prides itself on - EXORBITANT prices for everything e.g. a small glass of wine costing the same as the entire bottle does in the supermarket, a popcorn that costs 60 cents to make being sold for almost $10, embarrassingly flimsy and sparse pizzas costing almost $20, etc. - an employee who sexually harassed almost every female employee was not fired and still works there to this day meanwhile a different employee received a disciplinary meeting for accidentally leaving food out of the freezer, meaning that food is considered more important than women
