I have been working at First Data

    Pros

Good people to work with. Layed back atmosphere and easy going people. Money is ok but can get better in a bigger company. Out of the hussle and bustle of the City.

    Cons

North Sydney based. Management have their favourites and tend to promote within 'the crowd'. Systems are lacking and outdated. Long walk from North Sydney station.

I worked at First Data full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Not many, other than I worked with some very good people.

    Cons

Offshoring - jobs are being sent overseas, with no thought or care as to customer impact. Layoffs - so many redundancies, in US IT Operations' case, just before they took on the work of other countries. They were not happy. Neither were we in Oz. Pathetic pay rises. Bonuses given as part money, part shares, which last can't be touched for 3 years (the shares that I was "given" in 2017 couldn't be touched until 2020). Oh. and if made redundant, any unvested shares evaporate. I had some USD 2,000 in shares that disappeared in my redundancy. Enjoy them, Frank?

    Pros

Good people - those who have been with company before the current management team took place; may they succeed in getting out of the company

    Cons

Too many to count - no strategy to leverage the company's merchant network, no investment in talented people, ex-JP or ex-Citi takes it all people management and etc.

"CEO publicly attacked employees due to results of employee feedback survey"

I worked at First Data full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There's pockets of good people around the company that genuinely care and are trying to do things the RIGHT way; these folks becomes friends quickly. Because they can't retain people, they'll pay you well and promote you fast. You'll also get first-hand experience on what a failing corporate culture looks and feels like. If you're job hunting in the Atlanta market, recruiters and hiring managers will work extra hard to help you leave First Data, as the company's reputation is now quite literally in the garbage.

    Cons

In my opinion, I believe most 1-2 star reviews hit the mark on the problems FD is facing, and you should pay attention to the fact that the poor conditions are not isolated to one team or location. For my review, I'm going to focus on something I'm surprised none of the reviews have mentioned this yet - about 2-3 months ago, the senior leadership team held a company-wide, televised town hall where they reviewed the results of the employee feedback survey that was conducted. Overall, the story was that employees weren't happy with senior leadership's direction with the company and were more interested in having a 401k match instead of receiving deferred stock rewards as part of your (small) year-end bonus. Frank took this personally, and delivered what was one of the most offensive and disgraceful speeches to the employee base I'd ever encountered. Employees were told we didn't understand how to value stock grants properly, but he would "let us make bad financial decisions" and give us a 401k match. We were childishly mocked for scoring our direct managers higher than senior leadership - Frank threw his hands in the air, pantomiming insanity, and said "ohhh, I just think my manager is my BEST friend" in a high tone. When it was brought up that employees generally don't feel rewarded or valued, Frank said it was our manager's fault and he's gonna come down on them hard and send them to "boss school" to "learn to do their job better." I left the town hall session before it was over because I was so angry, and almost turned in my badge that very moment. That was the tipping point for me; I decided at that moment that I wouldn't continue to perform a function that helped put money in Frank's pocket. I left about a month later.
