I have been working at Flight Centre Travel Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - We have a great culture (family, village, tribe model) - We have leaders, not managers - The only constant is change - this could be a con but in my opinion it's a pro - we never sit still... we're always striving for something bigger and better - Everyone has so much passion - we are the brand... we are travellers for travellers and we want to open up the world for those who want to see - Reward and recognition...

    Cons

    - Like any company/team… we don’t always get it right - We need to improve our tech - both systems and innovation

I have been working at Flight Centre Travel Group full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

      - Great work culture and team focus - Great processes in place in some teams, particularly marketing - Good opportunities available if you have the right connections within the team - Global company, great to have as experience on your CV

      Cons

      - There is a huge focus on moving staff with consultant backgrounds/connections through the business - putting them in roles in which they have no experience. - Big focus on workplace events, if you don't attend or miss out - you're not in the 'in' group. - Management don't really care too much about growth and development - there are no formalized growth plans for staff - Salaries are quite low in comparison to similar...

I have been working at Flight Centre Travel Group part-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Great work culture, loads of work events, discounted travel, educational/famil opportunities, good people working for the company and travel networking abilities.

      Cons

There is basically zero opportunity for career progression for a part-timer, unless you want to be a retail travel agent for the rest of your life. Systems, products and plans out the window as fast as they were put in place, most head honchos running the show have zero idea what it's like to work in a store in the last 10 - 15 years. Uncomfortable uniforms.

      Advice to Management

It's easy to say you care about your women and parents in the workplace, but it'd be another thing to actually show them. You're talking the talk that you are flexible and progressive in your thinking, but are you walking the walk?

I have been working at Flight Centre Travel Group full-time for more than a year

      Pros

My days go so fast because I'm always so busy with interesting things. Every customer has a different idea for a holiday or some crazy unique place they'd like to visit. Management are supportive and constantly offering new training on a monthly basis and loads of 'BOF' opportunities (what the company calls Brightness of Future AKA career progression). It can take quite a bit of time to build your customer base and skill level. The first year is a challenge and there's just so much information/product/systems to learn, so it can be overwhelming for new staff, but very rewarding.

      Pros

Inclusive culture where your input and ideas are encouraged and valued. Know how to celebrate success. Strong company vision and philosophies.

      Cons

They have lost a lot of long serving people across the company and this seems to have weakened the depth of the company. Bringing in external people into senior leadership roles who don’t have the same passion or care for the company & they’re making decisions for themselves not the people.

I have been working at Flight Centre Travel Group full-time (Less than a year)

        Pros

I currently work in the head office in Brisbane and have seen so many great examples of what a great business this is in the time that I have been here. There are many, many people who have worked here for ten or more years and in that time have been travel consultants and then moved on to other totally different roles like HR, product, marketing etc. It's the kind of business where if you have a career development goal,...

        Cons

In this location, the open plan office can be quite distracting and noisy at times - which, if you're someone who needs quiet in order to concentrate then this might be a challenge for you. Most people get around this with some good headphones and music :) Also about the location, there are 2000 people in this building - which means getting up and down the different floors quickly can be a challenge! The lift system...

I worked at Flight Centre Travel Group full-time for more than 5 years

        Pros

In my experience, there is limited ‘pros’ to working for the company. If you like booze and parties you’re literally contractually obligated to attend, there’s plenty of that going round. The company is structured well opportunities to move vertically and horizontally within the company.

        Cons

Firstly, your initial impression of the company is very much store dependent - where you’re placed can often determine your future and indeed, your longevity with the company. Quiet stores, a very large majority of the time, completely blow. There is a great deal of pressure to make money. When you make money, they want you to make more money - it never stops. Your performance is micromanaged to within an inch of your...

        Advice to Management

Gut senior management - particularly the area leader of northern Nsw (who ought to have retired several years ago). Don’t overlook the importance and potential of regional offices. Pay your staff a half decent, liveable wage and you’ll attract talent. Stop hiring monkeys and slapping the title ‘expert’ on them - for most part, they know very little and the title is severely misplaced and misleading. Promote work life...
