      Pros

Fun events / Perks Happy hour on Fridays Pay is good

      Cons

Long hours, and I mean long. Communication across depts suck, results in duplicate work or work having to be redone. Parking can be a nuisance

Incredible Work, Master-Slave Relationship with Clients

Jan 31, 2019 - Anonymous Contractor in London, England, England

      Pros

Incredible mix of technical and creative artisty, non-stop innovation and growth, work with the best to become the best. Producers, VFX and CFX supervisors are incredible professionals with in-depth knowledge of how to deliver in a non-stop moving-target environment. This includes the most demanding / puzzle-solving briefs along with the management of strong political and personality factors.

      Cons

Framestore, like other major VFX vendors, has little power to negotiate reasonable project plans with its clients. Fear of lost revenue drives projects to be under resourced and people pushed to continually re-deliver as the client changes its mind / adds more complexity to a shot or sequence, often right up until a month before the film is due to be released. Production and Artists pull long hours with no overtime and any days off in lieu that you may be given - only officially working at weekends - can often be taken only between one project and another. Paid overtime IS available to Framestore's Canadian staffers as the law requires paid overtime. There is little chance at life-balance and the further you go in the company (or the industry as a whole) the greater you will be tested to solve issues and deliver at a quicker and more intense rate. For someone with the right personality and a live-for-work attitude this can be a great fit, for those who don't, a long-term life in VFX may not be for you.

      Pretty Poor Overall Experience

Sep 15, 2017 - 2D Artist in London, England, England

      Pros

Good machines, some scope to do varied work. Talented Artists to work with and learn from. Fairly good salary.

      Cons

Long hours which is apathetically supported within the employee culture, unfortunate usual VFX artist response of just accepting it, rather than collectively changing it. Tough to break into the established artist groups, so doesn't feel particularly welcoming, but that could be luck of the draw. Incredibly disorganised Production at times (not across the whole board but with some), for example not even having the correct media ready before work is started. Or failing to communicate effectively with artists, such are ignoring emails etc. Don't honour all contract lengths. Poor, tired facilities such as the toilets, and terrible coffee. And critically, DON'T PAY ONTIME! Framestore may be opening their new building by 2018 which might help with facilities and feeling around the office, but even if you worked in the shiniest and most comfortable office in the world it wouldn't create an amazing company unless the management, hours, culture and care for employees vastly improved.

Great projects and people but not always a good work/life balance

      Pros

Great work on inspiring projects. Very smart and inspiring co-workers. Good rigs and tools. Generally friendly atmosphere. Lots of opportunities to learn and to gain experience.

      Cons

Long hours and weekend work are expected at the end of projects, sometimes for months. No pay for the late evenings or weekends either - you do get an extra day of holiday for weekend work but good luck getting your holiday request approved when you want to take it. I've had 5 holiday requests denied in 3 yrs, and its had a big effect on my family life. "sorry, it's not a good time for us right now, can you please wait a few months and take your holiday then instead?"

      Pros

Good shows Good location Good IT and tech support - don't have to call through other countries.

      Cons

Long hours with limited recognition of hard work. Management will go above and beyond, but only if you're a senior who makes them lots of money. No appreciation of work in more junior roles. Very political and gossip-y, be sure to suck up to the people with power.

      Over-worked, Under-appreciated

      Pros

free snacks, some of the people are very nice

      Cons

unusually large workload for a receptionist, long hours with inconsistent breaks (occasionally no breaks), little to no appreciation given even when putting in extra time and effort (I often worked 11 or 12 hours a day), some of the people are rude, never felt truly welcome or included At the interview I was told the job was temp to hire and they were looking for someone to stay at least a year. As my 3 months were coming to an end, I asked if they were thinking of hiring. I was told they have never hired a permanent receptionist. I had seen by then that I was at least the 5th receptionist within the last 12 months. If this company hires you as a temp with the promise of a possible permanent position, BE SKEPTICAL!

      Nice place except the nepotism...

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good projects Good pipeline Experienced artists High quality work

      Cons

Terrible overtime without compensation except for TOIL on weekends. For me, this was surprisingly the company that took the most advantage of artists' free overtime. It's also the company culture to work very long hours, so most people think this is normal. Very strange cliquey atmosphere with different 'tribes' undermining each other for no good reason which leads to unnecessary politics. Terrible HR. No follow-through and disorganized. Projects are always under resourced and yet HR are very slow to hire.
