Great company in terms of project exposure, poor working conditions.

      Pros

Good project exposure Most senior technical staff (e.g. Technical Directors) are extremely knowledgeable and experts in their field. Good opportunity to learn from the best

      Cons

Poor pay in comparison to other consultancies. Expectation of long unpaid overtime (50-60+ hours per week on average). No bonuses. Very poor training opportunities. Often asked to use personal annual leave to attend training courses. Huge focus on utilization to maximize private shareholder returns at expense of non-shareholder work/life balance.

Friendly work colleagues. Very good/ supportive work culture. Interesting work

      Cons

Salary is somewhat below the market average. Work life balance could be low as it’s consultancy firm.

      Pros

      Good location in CBD.

      Cons

Poor pay with very little career progression. Also no rewards or recognition for good work(ers). Negotiate your starting salary well as you won't see movement with it for a few years. Tend win majority of projects on price (in my service group at least), leading to a culture of having to do a lot of overtime with poor work/life balance. Systems are sloppy, from HR to IT. This is dependent on location and service group, but I found leadership to be lacking. All they talk about is utilisation and numbers, with the utilisation target always increasing so you can never meet it, which can result in discontentment among employees.

Great work-life balance & opportunities, common large company drawbacks.

      Pros

      - Privately held, so they are willing to spend money on making the company great, not just keeping the share price up. - Excellent work-life balance, supported from top management down. "You work to live, not live to work". Working long hours is not the norm. For those who highly value their spouse and kids, this is a great place to work. - Good opportunities for relocation or secondment all over the world. You can "move around" a lot without actually changing companies. - There are many senior technical experts who are great to learn from. - A good culture of knowledge sharing and helping out people from other groups. - A great variety of work.

      Cons

      - Pay seems on the lower side. The real way to earn money here seems to be as a shareholder. - Internal systems are inefficient and make your job harder (although this seems to be the case for all large companies) - Suggestions for improvement often don't go anywhere (probably another large company thing) - Large experience gap between graduates and senior experts (seems common in a consulting firm though)

      Pros

Diverse working environment for a global organisation allows you to build a broad range of skills quickly. Work-life balance is well practised.

      Cons

Like most organisations you need to take responsibility for your career planning and actively drive and negotiate any change in remuneration or benefits.

      Pros

Flexible work arrangements to accommodate a healthy work life balance. Vast knowledge base to learn from and build expertise in specialist engineering fields.

      Cons

Poor communication between upper and lower management. Clear expertise gap between young and senior/principal engineers i.e. nothe many mid range engineers.

      Pros

      Cons

People tend to be anonymous to upper management in larger offices, work life balance can be poor at times depending on manager
