You don't receive any of the extras that happen in private industry like team building, celebration lunches, cannot attend free client/consultant events due to conflict of interest rules, no swag, safety is non-existant or is brushed off when issues are raised (especially surrounding COVID-19 hazards in the workplace indicating the Public Service Commissioner will address), despite an independent report stating management should received raises the salary has been frozen for 7 years and counting with threat of a rollback, you have NO decision making authority at any level below Assistant Deputy Minister so your reputation is damaged due to the red tape you have to endure to get action, limited room for advancement, pay ridiculous amounts of money for parking in government owned lots, just technologically caught up to 2005, billion dollar budgets run off of spreadsheets, databases still running in access '97, outdated software and hardware abound throughout leading to many hours on the phone with IT to bandaid the problems, and many more negatives.
