    Positive Outlook

I worked at Griffith University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Access to software, support services

    Cons

Contract work, hard to get permanent which creates a high turnover of staff and bad retention

    Advice to Management

Value employees by offering permanent work. Increase the positive work culture, enforcing work-life balance, there is too much guilt driven overworking culture.

I have been working at Griffith University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great conditions and benefits, from parental leave, superannuation and leave loading to working in a beautiful state forest. Most people are great and there are opportunities abound.

    Cons

Red tape, hierarchical nature of academics and leadership, top-down approach.

    Advice to Management

Engage with the people, communicate more and better - sharing is caring.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Griffith University full-time

    Pros

    - Southbank and Mount Gravatt Campuses are nice and are accessible to transport - Gold Coast Campus has a good public transport access to the beach - In some parts of the University, the culture is good

    Cons

    - too much politics and hubris at the upper levels of management - they don't seemed connected with the actual business of the University. They only care about league tables and their own careers. - too much bureaucracy - feels like an old style public service department - performance management demands are excessive, given that GU is not a top University, and never will be. - no real support for academics... teaching students who are "first in family" to attend higher education, and for students who have low ATAR scores and probably should be learning a trade and applying their skills elsewhere. - no proper ongoing review of program content (Medicine, Dentistry, Allied Health (except Social Work), Architecture, Accountancy excluded) which impacts upon what is taught to real students. - too many academic managers trying to keep their jobs and bullying staff. - terrible public transport to Nathan and Logan Campuses.

    Advice to Management

Griffith U needs to be split up. It is not viable as a multi-campus operation. Not in terms of quality or finance. Gold Coast Campus by itself but with absorption into UQ for some programs. Nathan campus needs to be taken out altogether and turned into a park and absorbed into UQ and QUT. Logan needs to be part of TAFE. Southbank needs to be part of QUT and UQ. I think Brisbane/Gold Coast taxpayers deserve more... that paying for a whole of duplicated and overpaid academic executives and campuses.
