I have been working at Griffith University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great conditions and benefits, from parental leave, superannuation and leave loading to working in a beautiful state forest. Most people are great and there are opportunities abound.

    Cons

Red tape, hierarchical nature of academics and leadership, top-down approach.

    Advice to Management

Engage with the people, communicate more and better - sharing is caring.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Griffith University full-time

    Pros

    - Southbank and Mount Gravatt Campuses are nice and are accessible to transport - Gold Coast Campus has a good public transport access to the beach - In some parts of the University, the culture is good

    Cons

    - too much politics and hubris at the upper levels of management - they don't seemed connected with the actual business of the University. They only care about league tables and their own careers. - too much bureaucracy - feels like an old style public service department - performance management demands are excessive, given that GU is not a top University, and never will be. - no real support for academics teaching...

    Advice to Management

Griffith U needs to be split up. It is not viable as a multi-campus operation. Not in terms of quality or finance. Gold Coast Campus by itself but with absorption into UQ for some programs. Nathan campus needs to be taken out altogether and turned into a park and absorbed into UQ and QUT. Logan needs to be part of TAFE. Southbank needs to be part of QUT and UQ. I think Brisbane/Gold Coast taxpayers deserve more that...

      Advice to Management

Focus more on staff and less on money

I have been working at Griffith University full-time

      Pros

Great super scheme, great atmosphere and co-workers

      Cons

Like most large organisations the management is sometimes outdated and therefore the staffing levels are also out of sync with the times

      Advice to Management

Better career pathing, professional manager training - especially training in managing people

      Positive Outlook

I have been working at Griffith University part-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Griffith University has a respectful environment and the Student Ambassador work is challenging but enticing. Requirements include being a current Griffith University student.

      Cons

No cons. It is a great place to work at and while some elements might be a bit distasteful, it is all part of working.

      Advice to Management

I would suggest to increase opportunities for students to get involved and increase transparency. The management is doing a stellar job though currently!

      Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Griffith University full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

A collegial atmosphere in which academic colleagues generally support each other, which is essential given the heavy administrative load that academics must carry. Many senior academics provide good intellectual leadership and mentoring for junior colleagues.

      Cons

Both students and lecturers are on a perpetual teaching treadmill with the recent introduction of trimesters. It leaves too little time to research (let alone craft well designed grant applications).

      Advice to Management

Ensure that University administrators work for academics and not vice versa as is currently the case. Ease up on micromanagement. And, STOP the incessant change and introduction of new administrative systems.
