I have been working at Griffith University

    Pros

Flexible working environment. You can leave at 4:30 if you wish and no overtime. Morning and afternoon teas and social events.

    Cons

Way too much politics, red tapes everywhere. Senior managers just like people who says yes. Way too many middle managers who does nothing beside going to meetings. Systems are no good so a lot of manual transactional work.

    Advice to Management

Get more ground people and get rid of some middle management.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Griffith University full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great further study opportunities, great to work with students, flexible work hours.

    Cons

Long term staff have no passion anymore and refuse to develop those around them (tall poppy syndrome)

    Advice to Management

Develop those around you and you will learn too.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Griffith University full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good conditions, fairly flexible working hours, portability of long service amongst Australian Universities, pretty standard 'public sector' conditions.

    Cons

Bureaucratic as anything. Hierarchical and heavy feeling of institutionalisation. HR structure is very centralised and has a very high rate of turnover that affects their ability to provide their service. They're a third rate university and a third rate employer.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better. Think more about job and work quality rather than running roughshod over them and failing to gain buy in when making extensive changes.
