Former Employee - Assistant Vice President in Buffalo, NY

I worked at HSBC Holdings full-time for more than 10 years

        Pros

        Decent benefits, comparable pay scales

        Cons

Individual managers in Compliance are disengaged from their employees as persons. Also, when the layoffs roll around (every three months), older employees are almost exclusively those shown the door. It amazes me that there hasn’t been a lawsuit. It’s also nigh impossible for a middle aged woman to live up the ladder, even with year over year outstanding performance reviews.

        Pros

Diverse Culture and the chance of international assignments if you are willing to travel.

        Cons

Lack of Diversity at the Top. While the culture is diverse, it is not reflected in senior management and the firm is still run by the old boys' network.

        Advice to Management

Focus on the promotion and retention of more diverse employees and more transparency in the process
