I worked at Herbert Smith Freehills

    Pros

Lots of law firm perks, good CPD program, cab home for late nights at the office, good pro bono work

    Cons

Poor team culture with high turnover. Micromanaging partners. No regard for personal life - long hours, effectively on call at all times. Poor quality, low skilled work for mid level solicitors. A real shame because other teams are not like this - this review reflects team specific issues (antitrust team).

    Pros

Very capable colleagues who are great friends. Working with top clients

    Cons

Long hours and as a junior very little control or autonomy, easy to feel like just a resource. Work is not particularly meaningful

I have been working at Herbert Smith Freehills part-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Working at this firm offers exposure to tier 1, exciting work. You will get to work with a talented, hard working team. The firm offers good flexible working arrangements.

    Cons

The commitment to client service can be demanding. Employees are expected to work to meet client deadlines for transactions, which can mean long hours.

I have been working at Herbert Smith Freehills full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Have been well looked after here. Support staff are well remunerated and as such do quality work. Great support for staff particularly during personal crisis

    Cons

Policy and reality not always aligned. Work life balance and vocal support for mental health often undermined by extremely high pressure and long hours

I worked at Herbert Smith Freehills full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    * I was lucky enough to work with some really fantastic, supportive and talented people. There was a real sense of commitment and hard work where everyone pitched in together to get the job done. * Some opportunities to work internationally * Exciting and challenging work * Some nice benefits and nice working environment

    Cons

    * A lot of really good people are starting to leave as the firm undergoes some significant change in order to maintain its global which was starting to really lower morale. * Some of the 'care for the people' values are being slowly eroded. * Long hours which also involved a lot of calls outside of normal business hours to colleagues in other countries.
