I worked at IDEXX Laboratories full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great company to build a solid foundation with. Good parking, office recently moved to a better much more modern environment. Great incentives like free testing for your animals and car leasing.

    Cons

Management can sometimes push their employees too far, however they are supportive most of the time. Bad work life balance as working from home not recommended.

    Advice to Management

Allow staff to work from home. Listen to staff more.

    Cons

Too much molasses & slow to change to keep up with competitors

    Advice to Management

I worked at IDEXX Laboratories full-time

    Pros

Lots of great people, very talented. Fantastic facilities, good benefits, encourages further education

    Cons

Very limited with what you can learn - if it's not part of your job, forget about it. Remuneration is poor, and some managers need to learn how to manage their teams better. Rarely promotes employees from within.

    Advice to Management

Instead of telling people every year that you're going to look at improving pay for everyone, actually do it.

    Pros

Good technology and consistent funding into research

    Cons

Lack of leadership. Worst company culture created by a 'boys club' mentality. These guys need to move with the times.

    Advice to Management

Stop the micro management. Update your leadership abilities and start to respect your employees.

I worked at IDEXX Laboratories full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Global Company. Great work colleagues and amazing team despite management, Great products and services offered although expensive, Occaisional Lunches or BBQ,

    Cons

Not for the serious career minded, No area for growth, Out dated machines and laboratory, Products not competative over priced hard for sales, Long hours under paid, No loyalty for long term employee's, Have reward systems in place not used by staff to difficult to acknowledge another colleague always rejected, HR just puppets need to be more independant and they do not help staff they allow bullying to flourish,... acknowledge it and then do nothing numerous times.

    Advice to Management

Management need to take notice of all the people who are leaving obviously its your style. The most usless HR department I have ever come across no proffessionalism at all. There is no leaders to enspire the staff only managers all looking out for themselves such a "Boys Club" One Idexx just a joke ! Without a good foundation of staff you have nothing to Manage. Its such a shame should be a Great Company they talk... the talk but don't follow through. TIME FOR ALL NEW UPPER MANGEMENT AND HR. John Ayers needs to visit and take a really good look at how they don't follow his ideology or principles.

    Pros

Global company. Other than that very difficult to think of a pro.

    Cons

Lack of support. Culture of fear that percolates right from the top. Also a monkey say monkey do culture. An HR department that does what it is told.

    Advice to Management

Make HR more independent and less a toothless tiger.

I have been working at IDEXX Laboratories full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Flexible schedule, great benefits, pleasant people to work with. People are invested in doing well, and enjoy the knowledge we're helping animals. Business is dynamic and innovative, always new ideas and discoveries in the making.

    Cons

Inconsistent competency among staff and management; select people singled out and promoted repeatedly. Work/ life balance can be challenging if you don't set your own boundaries. Poor communication due to too many layers of management, which results in the top and bottom levels having poor alignment and communication. Job titles/descriptions don't match the external alignment for the role. Pay is often somewhat... below market rate.

    Advice to Management

Overall, the company works really well, but sometimes it's in spite of itself. Refine your management structure and have established communication plans for the programs in place so the employees executing plans are aware of end goals and needs. Allow these same employees to provide valuable input so management doesn't run with a program that's flawed to begin with. Ensure your staff have opportunities for... multilevel discussions, especially on the clinical side of things, to get full picture before running with an idea.
