    I worked at J D Wetherspoon full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It can be a fun and engaging job, the people you work with and the regular customers male the job enjoyable. The free food is good and staff discounts are useful. I'd recommend it as a part time or second job for a bit of fun in your teens or twenties. Don't let it become your 'career'.

    Cons

As much as the company pretends to 'care' its all really about the money wrapped up in a pretend sense of 'team' or 'family'. Once you realise that you're selling a drug to people that makes their lives seem a little less dark and soul destroying then you have the truth of it. The pub trade is quite dark and seedy underneath and the recent press coverage has just highlighted how much Mr Martin only cares about his profits and not his people. Hours allocated are unrealistic and some shifts just aren't worth coming in for.

I have been working at J D Wetherspoon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good pay. Bonuses and other benefits such as discounts, free meals and shares. Good training scheme.

    Cons

Can come across some poor management but I have found that in most jobs. Unsociable hours but that's to be expected in the industry. Rota is a big issue, seems to be across the board however company is seen to be doing bits to improve this.

I have been working at J D Wetherspoon full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pay more than the average for this style of work, also provide free shares after 18months, free food if you’re working over 6hours. Very good bonus scheme, up to 17% of weekly wage as a bonus.

    Cons

While the company is pushing forward for changes they are often punishing select groups of staff through their ideas. Stopping staff working over 10 hours is probably beneficial to a fair amount of staff, but as someone who used to work 14 hour shifts every Saturday, I’d rather do that shift and 3 others and make 40 hours than do 5 8 hour shifts for instance.
