Sales is tough especially if you're new, but your team makes up for it

      Pros

PTO Employee Discounts Respectable lower management Team of AMs and AAMs are fantastic Resources to help you succeed Pays for all onboarding tasks like insurance license, exam, DOJ fees, etc.

      Cons

Upper Management wants to compete with the larger carriers but renewal rates increase more often than not which can affect commission and bonuses. Learning curve for new employees is tough. expectation is about 1 year to be good. If your book underperforms, by no fault of your own, target incentive will be several percent lower. Systems are outdated making your job harder and you can experience frustration internally when Underwriting or CSC/CSU make you wait which makes the broker/group wait.

      Great compensation and benefits

      Pros

Hard to find comparable pay or benefits. Very stable organization with long history of working with unions. The organization tends to celebrate professional and competent clinicians. Efficiency is evident in many ways.

      Cons

Culture is to get every possible ounce out of their employees. Efficiency cuts both ways, meaning that the any cost savings to members come from the employees work life balance, of which there is little. Upper management is either completely ignorant of how behavioral health works, or simply do not care.

      It's not bad...

      Pros

      Benefits, fairly easy work, consistency

      Cons

Difficult to move up or change positions. Upper management has no problem putting significantly more work on everyone below them just to try to save money. They do not care about how that negatively impacts our interactions with our patients.

      Excellent Supportive Environment.

      Pros

Excellent and supportive environment, professional training provided along with tuition reimbursement benefits available. Great benefits, competitive pay, a genuine focus on serving communities and upholding its values. Rewarding and fulfilling work. I can sleep at night. Department management listens and invites feedback.

      Cons

Large corporate structure means sometimes decisions are made at National levels that impact smaller departments at regional levels for good and ill. Upper management (outside department) feels detached.

      Poorly staffed

      Pros

The people who do work here are fantastic.

      Cons

You are constantly not staffed. Kaiser says we are too well paid even when the cost of living in Portland has gone through the roof. Upper management doesn’t care at all about their employees.

      Poor Company to work for

      Pros

Not many. Salary due to union involvement

      Cons

Poor direct and upper management. FAVORTISM across the board. Accepts liars and untruth--even when given hard cold facts. Worked there for 20 yrs and saw way too much negative to want to go back. Thank goodness for retirement

      Awful Experience

Jul 6, 2021 - Project Manager in Los Angeles, CA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Clinical staff and ancillary departments are generally kind and patient oriented. Knowledgeable physician and nursing teams.

      Cons

Leadership and upper management is awful. Overall toxic environment where moving up is their priority instead of patient care. Do not work here if you are trying to make a difference. Los Angeles Kaiser is for people whose sole purpose is to move up and not improve health systems. Many people I’ve meet throughout the years have all shared similar negative experiences as POC when it comes to promotions and salaries. Maybe other KP locations are better, but if you are a POC I would recommend that you not work at KP Los Angeles. Look for another place that will treat you with respect and base performance evals on your work. Side note: several POC end up going on stress leave due to discrimination and working in toxic environments. Kaiser puts a lot of effort into “diverse hiring”, but puts no effort in ensuring staff are not discriminated against. They have this worthless HR compliance set up where they direct you to your leadership/managment for any complaints…does not help when your complaint is against your leadership/management.

      Pros

      Decent pay, health benefits, education/training

      Cons

Their a big corporation so they don’t care much for their lower employees. With so much restructuring going on theirs no compassion or job security. Lack of communication and support from upper management.
