I worked at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The Kimpton corporate office had an awesome culture, like no other. Although my department (accounting/finance) had no direct contact with the guests, it felt like we still contributed to the overall fun culture. The teams worked hard and played hard. Happy hours on Friday and everyone in my department genuinely enjoyed working there. Overall comp was considered at market. Could have stayed longer if there wasn't an acquisition.

    Cons

There were plenty of long work nights and a not-so-great 401k plan match/vesting program, but not overall deal breakers.

I have been working at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to work, fun, great employees, empowerment, advancement, high standards, employee driven.

    Cons

I can't think of many cons. The only change I see is the affect on guests with the IHG takeover. There seems to be issues with the loyalty program and some of our guests are unhappy with this

    Pros

The working environment is very good, and there is always support and room to grow form within. Transfers from department to department is a possibility if the experience is there. This is a great learning environment and a great place if want to travel and work in different parts of the country.

    Cons

There is no set schedule unless you are a manager or an executive.

    Advice to Management

Keep making every day EPIC and making everyone your Kimpton moment

I have been working at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Employee-Centered; the Work Culture; Entrepreneurial; Embodiment of Empowered Employees; Elicits Creativity from Employees at ALL LEVELS; takes chances on bold, daring, wild, and sometimes outlandish ideas; challenges its people to do better; operates as two businesses (Hotel and Restaurant)

    Cons

Holding people accountable for "the little things"; Not knowing when to say "no" - either to guests or employees; tries to operate as two separate businesses (Hotel and Restaurant)

    Advice to Management

Trust employees and their decisions - you hired them for a reason (hopefully other than "warm body"); and hold your people accountable

I worked at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Kimpton mission statement is still in place in most hotels

    Cons

The negative impact of a large corporation takeover has started to make the work at home office not fun.

    Pros

Work alongside some talented hardworking peeps, family atmosphere, you can have a cool manager, discounts at other properties (when available), hotel design, development and career advancement is possible

    Cons

The company culture has changed into a larger big box brand which has created many restrictions which can be tough to navigate. Senior regional positions and corporate roles are out of touch with the field and lack knowledge in their disciplines. The food and beverage division operates as an entirely different company with low standards. The lack of knowledgeable leadership in food and beverage division creates problems at every hotel which is ignored by all senior leaders.

Benefits for managers have been reduced.

    Advice to Management

Address the biggest problem this company has: food and beverage. Hire senior positions with more experience and higher standards

Provide better benefits to your managers
