    Pros

World class project portfolio, reasonable work life balance. Decent budget for training. Management is generally quite ethical. Opportunities to learn were significantly improved as a result of the recent strategy to set up more external secondments.

    Cons

The organisation has about 5x more employees than it really needs to fulfill its function. It’s a bureaucrat’s paradise! The hierarchy has many layers and there are countless different departments; many of which duplicate each other’s mandate. The org chart seems to expand horizontally in infinitum. No doubt the agenda is to create more senior positions so as to allow existing staff to be promoted. There are a some exceptionally talented individuals who work tirelessly to deliver productivity, but they are generally the individuals who know that they at least have a chance of one day being rewarded with promotion to a senior management position. Unfortunately though, the vast majority of the headcount feel that such an opportunity is so off limits that there really isn’t any point in trying. Most of those staff waste the prime years of their career undertaking low value tasks like writing meeting minutes. They learn absolutely nothing whilst they endure back to back meetings throughout 80% of their day. Much of that time is wasted by managers who prefer to spend more time massaging their egos than sharing any knowledge that might be of value to young engineers. If you join LTA you’ll also witness countless attempts to leverage on technology to supposedly create value. It’s all showcased as though it was a success; when more often than not it actually wasn’t. It is usual that LTA staff pat themselves on the back by taking the credit for accomplishments that were actually the work of the Contractors in their supply chain. They will shamelessly take the credit for work they were scarcely involved with. Laughable and cringeworthy showmanship is encouraged from the top down and you find yourself scratching your head wondering why it’s all happening and why no body felt embarrassed?

    Pros

Good work life balance, iron rice bowl.

    Cons

Too many levels of approval make work progress very slow. Different departments and stakeholders tend to guard up and self protecting when their interest have to be compromised for long term strategical development.
