A great company before the heartless lay offs

Pros

- Average salary wise, but based on the country you reside in and your role. - Fully remote work. - Global onsite so you get to travel internationally at times, sponsored for you but not your family - Equipment budget to set up your home office. - Supportive, kind, genuine friends and teammates. - Professional colleagues with extensive experiences that you can learn a lot from. - Flexible working hours but usually people from other regions always have to cater to the US/Canada time zone, and also their timezone. - Ramadan and dhul hijjah bonus like $1000 in total for a year.

Cons

- will fire people anytime they want. You get a video call from the manager out of the blue saying that it's your last day, then they’ll just cut off all access to slack, etc. - give severance pay for 2 months and are VERY proud of it. - the reason for the lay off is because they don’t find you relevant anymore. Like they don’t know where to put you, or they developed a new goal, then they cut you off. Saying things like they don’t want to hold you back from thriving elsewhere. - no performance review but make it as one of their justifications to fire people. - lay off without warning, and regardless of the employees current situation. Pregnant, supporting family members or even if you are a senior etc. - romanticising working extra hours. - health benefits only for those in the US. - keep collecting employee feedback but hardly addressed any effectively. - hires globally and expecting people to have global skills, but pay them based on local pay. - have to work extra hours and cater to Western time zone while being paid little, especially for underpaid countries. - a senior can be paid less than junior, meanwhile being assigned to a much more complex tasks. - no salary raise at all despite extra hours and good performance. - high turnover rate. - spend too much on traveling and onsite (mostly for top leaders), but are hesitant to revise the employees salary.

An okay place to work

Pros

- remote work with flexible hours - coworkers that become friends - islamic values - high energy work environment - rewarding company mission - good insight in what other teams are doing with some opportunities to work on projects you may be interested in outside your current role.

Cons

- low pay with no clear pay bands/structure - unclear and difficult career progression - disorganized management - high turnover with bad documentation making cross collaboration difficult - no standardized performance reviews or feedback - too much reliance on "high seasons" like ramadan to hit company goals - too much reliance on large but unpredictable campaigns without good support systems to manage them in place - often told to offer new ideas but they are not actually implemented or given the supports/tools to see them succeed - reliance on re-hiring or mass hiring new people instead of investing in existing teams (be it via investing in workers compensations or team budgets) - sudden layoffs in certain departments affecting moral - glossing over systemic management and operation issues by inviting speakers, having unnecessary on-sites, and promoting "we're a family"
